Most quality braids are much smaller in diameter than mono VS the same lb. test braid and most guys use the 30lb braid that is approximately the same diameter as 8lb mono. It allows you to use the most common dive charts for lures with 10 lb mono as the line of choice when calculating those dive curves. It also allows you to trip dipsy divers more easily as there is little to no stretch in the braided lines. Using the smaller lb test/diameter braided lines can and will cause problems with the clips on the small boards. If the line slips thru the clips any appreciable distance those clips will be rendered useless without the need to wrap the line around the clip or at least half hitch a small rubber band in between the 2 clips or pin depending on the type planer boards one may be using.
