Me and a buddy went out Saturday. Started off of the State Park at Catawba, about halfway between the marker bouy and the pier. Not much happening. Got a couple perch, did some casting for walleye with a gold blade weapon while anchored and picked up 2 barely keepers at 15 1/4 and 16". As our main goal was perch, we spotted a few headboats a bit south of us just off the Portage River, maybe a mile out. Things were slow there too... until 2 pm. Between 2 and 3:30 we got another 50 perch in the boat, average size 9-10". Then it slowed down and it took us until 5:30 to limit out... another 2 hours to get 8 more perch. Yeesh. But we had our limit. Also got several small walleye on perch rigs in the 10-14" range in the same spot, one big sheephead, and a 9 lb channel cat on a worm that we had sitting right on the bottom.

Stopped and did some casting off Mouse in 23-5 FOW and picked up 2 more walleye that weren't quite legal, a little more off of Clinton reef that also weren't legal, and 6 more off of West harbor reef of which 2 were legal, and one was a nice 22 incher... not huge, but a nice change in pace after all the small fry.

Slow start to the day, but good finish, and a great mid-point in the day.

Cleaning the little SOBs for 2 hours wasn't much fun, but hey, well worth it.

Everything was biting really really light. Couldn't feel most of the bites, and resorted to very gently lifting the rod every few seconds to see if there was any weight on it, and if so jerking... otherwise they just sucked the minnows right off.

Very little garbage. 1 white perch, 2 white bass, and the sheephead.
