    Several years ago I too saw something that appeared to be feeding in a raft of mayfly sheds at the surface. I casted an Erie Dearie on a slash count into the raft and caught a couple of walleye. I have not had that experience again. So in your case they definitely could have been walleye.

    I have seen walleye right at the surface a number of times but usually over the reefs in the spring.
