Stopped in at Hi Way Bait and tackle when we got into town on Friday afternoon. To late to fish but put our game plan together. Saturday we fished east of Kelleys all the way to Huron Dumping grounds and caught several fish but all throw backs. Sunday we fished the south passage and around the southeast corner of Kelleys. Managed 5 keeper walleye all on harnesses behind 2 ounce inlines and planers. Weight was 25 to 40 feet behind boards. Monday we stayed east and boated 8 walleye that averaged over 4 lbs each. The largest fish was 8 pounds and 12 ounces. We also had 1 fish get wrapped up in my swim ladder that was a bit larger than that. It ended up beaking the hook as we tried to free the line and net the fish. Rookie mistakes! Monday we pulled harnesses behind 1 ounce weights and concentrated on 30 to 36 ft of water and kept speeds at .75 to 1.2 miles per hour. 33 ft back was the magic number on purple, orange and chartreuse crawler harnesses. Tuesday we went back to the same area with the same program but with all the midges that swarmed us I felt lucky to catch 2 nice fish and get off the water. Be back in July to try it again. Thanks Hi Way Bait and Tackle for your hospitality.
