Lowrance Units need help
Question for the Lowrance pros. I just bought a boat that came with 2 Lowrance HDS 7's. One has insight and the other does not. Do I need chips for both of these in order for them to work properly or do any of these have gps installed? Just curious what the difference is between the 2 units and will I be able to save waypoints on these units without chips? Any info would be great. Thank you all in advance.

These units have base maps and will do waypoints, routs and trails. You can also purchase charting like navionics. Check out base maps though, they are pretty good. If you don't have the Manual it's probably available on Lowrances web site. You also can link them together with a Ethernet cable and they will share data you make or save.

Sorry didn't mention that "insight" is the mapping type on that unit and like I said it's very good.

If both HDS 7s are Generation 2's you will be able to share one mapping card if you decide to go with one providing you have the latest software update installed in both units. If Generation 1s a card in both units will be required.

Thank you both for your input. I have a lot to learn from these units and the only way to learn is being out on the lake. Good luck to all and be safe. Thanks!
