Yes, Yes, Let them sink and work it back to the boat cranking and letting it drop, repeat

Yes, Yes. and When the fish are hanging deep and during Mayfly hatch we often let them drop to the bottom, then rip the rod up, then let it drop again. Most of the time they will hit on the drop. So rip it up each time hard like a hook set.

It's been a long time since used an Erie dearie.Prefer to cast weapons but the same concept.I would hook worm head first and I only used half a worm.To cast,I would cast perpendicular to your drift,or toward bow or stern.Count the drop to figure out depth fish biting and reel, pause,reel,pause all the way in.Change count in drop till start catching.In windy days,dragging works too.
