    Default Leader for trolling bandits

I troll with off shore side planers and bandits. I’ve been using 12 pound mono with a 6 foot 10 pound vanish fluorocarbon leader to the bandit… Is this necessary or should I eliminate the leader?
    Thank you in advance.

I don’t believe you need the leader. Next time out try running one side with and one side without once pattern is recognized. That will tell you for sure.

The fewer the splices or nots the better. Nots are a week link.

For most situations you do not need a leader. However, in Lake St. Clair, I always use a 30 lb flouro leader in front of my baits. Otherwise, these guys will steal them from you:

I’ve fished with boards on charters and on my own boat for the last 5 years and never did I use a leader. The charters I was on trolled with
Braid w/o a leader and I just use mono and it works great. Something you can do is actually line your spool with a mono backer and finish it with a flouro and you’ll still have your flouro you like. Flouro actually works very well on trolling applications too
