    Default First time

Well after Reading everyone's post's for a while, finally found time to get out trolling for the first time yesterday. got a late start on the water @ 10am out of east harbor, figured on heading to Huron heard like everyone else the bite was hot
Stopped @ 1 mile se of Kelly's just to get setup and try our home made boards before having to deal with all the other boats. started marking 🐟 so we fished. Took a 90 deg heading at 2.5 mph set some random small spoons on jet 20s out 85 to 110 and damn everything worked lol. Landed 10 17 to 20 in walleye in hour and a half.+ A few farm animals. Lost two fish trying to get the release undone (lines broke) I think they were big fish.thanks all for your experience and help great forum.

On anything that has releases, jets, dipseys, small board clips, I only try once...........in fact on jets and dipseys I don't to unlock them with fish on personally............its not worth losing fish or gear, just grunt down and enjoy the fight.

At those speeds if you think you have a big fish on..........sometimes its wise to slow down a touch to make the fight easier. Your already dragging the fish at 2 5 mph b4 you start reeling in, that can be a lot of pressure on tender mouth parts

As Ben said if having difficult time reeling in fish and board ,slow down as much as you can.You can even shift in and out neutral to slow down more. But you have to keep moving forward or your other lines will snag or tangle. Most likely was not a large walleye, looking at all the charter boards of 30 -40 walleye for past weeks shows how rare a FO is now out west. Most likely a big sheephead, cat or foul hooked fish. But good job on first time trolling.Had to have fun with all that action.

Was just enough for our inexperience.since we had 4 lines out 2 guys. and with the wind and waves couldn't really leave the helm. Looked like 1 to 2 ft with occasional 3 that one liked to push the bow around. Have Amish bag's just not rigged yet
