Beautiful fish! Most of muskies are smaller. Not to many larger ones like you caught.Discussions on why not many bigger ones caught is tackle too light to bring in.What test line, mono, braid and what was on terminal end since probably didn't have a wire leader on?

I use 30 # braid on the rod. Had a 3 inch Michigan stinger trout color spoon behind a 40 true trip jet with a 7 feet leader of 17 # mono, back 85 feet.

Nice.Figured you had braid on that rod.I also run 17lb fluorocarbon on my leaders.Lucky he didn't cut through that mono though.Must have been a big surprise and good battle to get him in the net.

I fished that same area on Saturday and had two breakoffs on large fish. Didnt get them close enough to the boat to see what they were. The first somehow managed to stretch the wire out on an interlocking ball bearing swivel. On the second, I had a clean break on my 14lb XT mono leader. We did catch some large cats near Gull, so not sure if it was another Catfish or perhaps something else. All I know is it fought like hell. Didnt feel like the dead weight of a Sheephead either. You didnt happen to find a Purple Reef Runner 600 Little Ripper in that Muskie's mouth did you? lol.... Whatever stretched out my swivel stole my brand nee lure the kids got me for Fathers Day....lol

When the fish went into the net, it went part way through the net and the destroyed the net. even with that the fish was still hanging out the open part. he got stuck in the net.
