I think it's about 50/50 with half using minnows on hair jigs and the other half nothing.The problem with using minnows on hair jigs bouncing off bottom is the minnows keep falling off.But on jigging...

We would get an assortment of 5/8,3/4 and 1 oz hair jigs.Favorite colors are purple, green and black.Also get jigs with a small stinger treble off jig hook.

Not very productive casting or dragging harnesses before water temp reaches 52°.But using jigs and jogging spoons will produce now.

Thanks Lynn for the first fishing post of the new season.My guess is those 20-22" fish were from the 2019 hatch.Should be another great season catching with the string of great hatches of walleye.

The first open water launching usually occurs at Huron ramp.The river melts/ removes the ice earlier than Catawba or Mazurkas.Think Huron has a concrete pier to tie off of.Have not read of anybody...

There is a public boat ramp on the portage River about a mile west of port Clinton you can launch from.Not as busy as the Catawba public ramp.

We sometimes run flicker shad lures on our dipseys.The best color being a white or silver color.We will also use a Rapala J7 too.They are both jointed and have good action.

We only run snaps to our crankbaits.We feel that the snap provides more action to the lure than a swivel. Since you were going less tham 1.8mph, the speed most likely was not causing your twisting...
