We routinely run harnesses and cranks at 2.5mph during the summer. But we are using double willow blades. I have heard of guys running the willows up to 3.5mph too. But the Colorado blades top out...

Thanks for the report Jul. The water to the west is warming up fast and the harnesses are starting to catch. Were you using willow or Colorado blades and what was best color for you? Thanks

I would say the jig/crankbait bite changes to the harness/spoon bite when water hits 52 degress. That happens around mid May. Some of the initial harness locations occur around American Eagle reef...

The nets people are talking about avoiding are the commercial fishing nets. The net stakes on charts can be disregarded. You can actually run over a commercial net and most likely not be an issue....

I think it's about 50/50 with half using minnows on hair jigs and the other half nothing.The problem with using minnows on hair jigs bouncing off bottom is the minnows keep falling off.But on jigging...

We would get an assortment of 5/8,3/4 and 1 oz hair jigs.Favorite colors are purple, green and black.Also get jigs with a small stinger treble off jig hook.

Not very productive casting or dragging harnesses before water temp reaches 52°.But using jigs and jogging spoons will produce now.

Thanks Lynn for the first fishing post of the new season.My guess is those 20-22" fish were from the 2019 hatch.Should be another great season catching with the string of great hatches of walleye.
