Astabula Perching with Grandson 10/11 &12

After hearing the reports of nice Perch catches in Astabula, The Admiral, Grandson and I trailered to Astabula. Saturday we started at 11:00 AM and Fished till 4:30 PM. Started slow, but the bite really turned on about 2:30 PM. Three person limit that weighted 42 lbs at the cleaners was the result. Fished NNw of Lakeshore Park in 62' depths.

Sunday in the same area we started fishing about 9:00 AM and fished till 1:00 PM. Only 12 keepers - lots of white bass and a couple of huge Sheepheads. Reports on the radio and the ramp were that everyon else was slow.

Yup. Bite was slow Sunday. The wind picked up at 1:30 ish and they got lock jaw. But? Look what i caught on a perch spreader in 62 fow NE of Lakeshore Park. LOL. Must have been the orange plastic sleeve covering the top hook. LOL

Very nice! And I go all the way to Manistee to TRY and catch those. Btw I bet that was a blast on a perch rig! What'd that weigh 5-6 lbs.? They also like orange in Mi.

he was a small guy, but got 3 slabs of smoked steelhead cooling under grill lid right now. With a little dill sauce. Yummy
