I looked up sat images hoping they would show deeper spots. Sorry did not see anything. That is not to say they are not there however.
I am not aware of any holes that deep in the western basin. The deepest hole I know of is located near Starve Island and as I recall it's about 60 feet deep. It's a very small hole, maybe 50 yards by 50 yards. I found it years ago with my GPS, charts, and depth sounder. It does not show on any of the normal charts.
There is a nice deep hole at the end the shoals located off the north east corner of Kelly's. I have taken some nice perch out of there. It is a hole surrounded 3/4 sides by walls and about 100 yards in diameter and 55 FOW. r.
Freddie, I wish I could ! Your dad is correct it is a bit of a challenge and can be dangerous. The shoal I am sure has taken its share of damaged lower units, hulls, and keels.
I used a nav chart of Kelly's to locate and slip in, I follow the shoal out on the south side and you will run into the hole. But I warn you do not try and cross over the shoal.
If you have any other questions, I will try and help you out. But it is a great place if they are there.
