Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Went out this morning, east of the intake about a mile. Boats scattered all over. Got into the perch quickly !! Unfortunately they were dinkys...moved three times and still 5-6" perch..only 4 decent ones in over three hours. Right a noon the wind picked up, so headed in.

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
We did not make it up Friday with the wind out of the northeast and a cold front, so we just went in to the shop and did some work. Let me know if any one was out , the after noon looked like it settled down from the camera views ,

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
We went out today, the weather was great but the fishing was not. We went out of Wild Wings hit the can area, we caught a few but all of them were too small for us to keep. Wife caught a 8" walleye. We enjoyed the day on the lake but it was a long drive to come home with nothing. I am not sure if we will get another chance to go out this year but I will be looking forward to some jig fishing next spring

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Is this wind and weather ever gonna get better ?? This season is comming to a close before we realize it....only one package of perch and a small pkg of walleye in the freezer. Gonna be a long winter if we cant get back on the lake here soon !!

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
How late in the fall do they usually catch the perch and walleye in the western area?
-
Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Good news is, fall fishing is some of the best. Bad news is fall weather on Erie can be rough. Heading up for a week later in October and a week first part of November
-
Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
I can't wait to hear how you do. I am going to watch the weather and hope to make it out in a week or two with my grandson. He loves to fish but we haven't had much luck on Erie this year
-
Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Perch can be caught right up until ice forms. November can be good if weather cooperates and you dont mind fishing in cold air !!!
-
Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
I don't mind fishing in cold air especially if I am catching fish lol
-
Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
My best day last year for perch was early November over by Marble head light house. It was a beautiful day. I'm up here this week going out Tuesday and Wednesday.

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Grest day on the lake today, perch bite was slow but steady. Still lots of dinky perch but did have some nicer ones mixed in. Also caught 5 small walleye which were gently returned to the water. Tried straight out of Metzgers with a pack of boats but not much happening there, moved close to intake but no action there. Ended up about half way between intake and Metzgers in 20' of water. Only 17 quality keepers including a few in the 10-11.5" range !!! Nice chunky perch....probably 30-35 little throwbacks. No farm critters this time. Great day with just a slight chop, just enough to keep the rods moving. Gonna try again tomorrow, supposed to be a duplicate day of today...

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Great evening on water. South of lighthouse, 16ft of water. 2man limit in 3 hours. 20lbs at cleaners. Most of fish were 9s and 10s. Still small fish mixed in, and released. Very aggressive bite tonight. One more day and then will get another round of wind.....

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Sounds like a good day. I hope to live closer to the lake when I retire in a couple of years
-
Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
I am going to try and fish into the late fall as long as weather permits, and we can get out from the recent reports the fishing is starting to get better as the lake cools off a buddy of mine called me this afternoon said they really did well.

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Took advantage of the nice weather so hit the lake again today. Started very slow, mabey 5 dinky's from 10am until 12:30 !! Moved 4 times, finall ended up by the intake close in, about 18-19' ft of water. After about a half hour of watching good marks the bite started and the nicer fish came to bite !!! I kept nothing under 9" with many in the 10-11" range. From about 1:15 until 2:30 I caught 22 nice ones with a dozen throwbacks. Best action of the year for me...hope to get more days like this before the season ends !!!

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Friday 10/ 14 /22 Three of us fished south West of Toledo water intake started 13 ft and then moved to 19 ft however best acttion was 17 foot drop down crappie rigs heavy sinker then lift up to get sinker just off the bottom so rod tip bends , I found this worked best for the waves and wind you can aee the bites better and most fish were not gut hooked , we fished about 8 to about 12 pm total 86 fish they shut down at 12 pm and we could not find the last 4 fish anywhere . The waves started to build so called it quits , ended up with a really close fish ohio perch also. Kept 7 inch or above it was really a good bite around 10 to 11 up and down Doubles. Looks like a big blow for next 4 days may try again Friday if weather and waves permit.

Right now the forecast is for 10-15 mph from the sw. This time of year we are perch fishing fairly clisevto shore where the wind even upvto 20 moh wont bother you. I fish from a 16' alum SC and have no issues with SW winds up to 20 mph as I am less than 3 miles off shore

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
I have a 17.5 Deep V so I might give it a shot. I plan on getting a trail setup in the near future when I retire so I can out out all the time. I am looking at Wild Wings, I have stayed there when I chartered with Goose a couple of times

If you plan on perch fishing, there are a number of ramps closer to the intake where the better bite seems to be right now. If your gonna make a longer run for walleye then chose your ramp accordingly. Even with a 20 mph comming off shore the water is well protected until you get beyond 5 miles offshore. We are typically less than 2 miles offshore for perch. Sat and sunday appear to be the best days..

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
I am looking at coming up Thursday eve for the walleye nite bite at Jackson pier then fish Friday for perch if wind waves and wife are willing then get the boat winterized and call it a year .

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
I like that one lol Happy wife Happy life

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Yes, If I fish the intake I will launch a lot closer

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Nice day on the lake today, unfortunately the perch did not cooperate. Plenty of good marks, mabey to good as I am thinking the bottom couple feet was filled with small bait fish !! When these masses dissapeared then smalk perch would bite, but when the screen was filled....no bites what so ever....my thinking is thet were feedingnon the bait/ small fish. Nice day for a ride, the biggest perch caught today was just 8" long barely enough for a sandwich....might try again tomorrow, nice days are dissapearing quickly.
-
Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
You are correct on that. The days are getting shorter and the temp will be dropping before you know it. I guess as long as the wind cooperates we can get a few more days on the lake.
-
Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
It looks like Saturday is going to be a nice day to get out on the lake. I just have to decide if I want to fish the cans, an area I have fished before so I know where to start or fish around the intake area, an area I have never fished. Decisions decisions lol

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
30 nice perch Sun,Mon, and Tuesday in the G can area. They started like fire every morning right at sun up then slowed down by 830 or so. Kept nothing under 8" and I bet I threw back 60-70 shorties in the 3 mornings. A great sign for a good fall next year. Another good sign is the 12-15 small pickerel I caught. There were several fish over 11" mixed in there. Time for perch tacos!

Fished Friday and Saturday 10/28 and 29 total both days 2 men 82 fish 13.9 ft of water little cedar point shiners laying on the bottom , I would leave the bail open so the swing of boat does not move the line I believe the perch were laying on the bottom with fins touching so sonar did not pick them up we were not marking any fish but at time we would get double and even a triple on one line I used both a crappie rig with an additional sneilled hook and shiner at the bottom with a 5/8 oz egg sinker, and a spreader on the other pole .I kept all the gut hooked fish rather than feed them to the gulls that were all around me waiting for a snack cleaned them myself so don't know the weight , couple of nice size 12 inch in the mix also caught a 12 inch walleye hope to see a few more of his older buddies this Friday for one more trip before pulling the boat .

Great information and photos. Nothing better than a fried perch dinner! Where are you launching from to fish the area around Little Cedar Point, a public DNR launch or private marina? Thanks

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Another nice day on the lake, perch bite was slow but steady. Again threw back about three dozen or more small ones, did manage to keep 14 nice perch from 9" to 11".. due west of intake right off little cp in 19/20' of water. By 2 pm the bite about stopped with just an ocassional dinky. Called it a day...will try again on friday, probably the last trip of the year, have plenty of minnows left over from BiteMe bait store, minniows were big today cut most into 3-4 pieces. The season is about over, thanks to all that have posted on this forum, get those boats properly stored so they will be ready come spring..

Re: Perch fishing toledo water intake
Nice job airshot, I doubt if I will make it back to lake Erie this year, I will have to settle with taking my grandson out in the kayaks and catch some big bass here in Elkhart. I can't complain I have a 5# and a 7# out of the lake we go on.

Done for the year finished up today. We only got about 80 out-of 150 limit for 5 guys but really a pretty nice day for November, southwest of intake 18 foot of water look for the red flag for commercial net , park close and wait them out minnows on the bottom slow pick up fish were just hanging on . Caught one small walleye also , not great catching but great fishing . But unfortunately 2 boats sank from Stern anchoring! no one was injured thanks to tow boats quick response, we also saw about 4 other boats that were Stern anchored remember to be safe out there .
