Mid September Walleye Fishing Trip....Looking for ideas
Hey All,
My brother is coming up from Tennessee on leave from the army mid September this year. We are planning a week long camping and fishing trip out in Oak Harbor Ohio. We will be going out of Turtle Creek Marina. We want to walleye fish, and we are drift fisherman, not into trolling. I'm curios for ideas on where to fish during this trip for walleye. Here are some areas we are thinking of trying.
1. Triangle area near turn around bouy, cast weight forwards and use bottom bouncers if drift is good.
2. Crib and Niagra reefs, cast cast weight forwards in the shallow water or right of a shallow shelf.
3. Kellys island shoal and gull island shoal. These are pretty long boat rides so we are putting them lower on the list.
4. Possible evening fishing up on reefs or near shore casting body baits like a bomber or jointed rapala.
Does anyone else have any thoughts on areas to try or methods to catch them drifting? Any information is most appreciated.
Tight Lines,
Frank

We used to catch walleye casting on Niagra reef during an evening fish.We would target specific areas on the reef with our lorance that marked structure.More recently,we would cast on Gull Island Shoal for walleye. We would start catching them on the shoal the third week of September. But the timing, of when the bite starts varied from year to year.Think main variable was water temperature.
