Where are the walleye. Got skunked today trolling bandit's cedar point dump area in 35 feet of water. Guy here at the campground said Lorain strait out. He limited today. Think I'm gonna give that a shot tomorrow. Are they that far east already.

Walleye are all over the southern shore of LE in Ohio. my friends killed them in front of RR and CLE last Saturday. Couldn't keep the 17-20 inchers off the lines.
Rickerd
We trolled Tuesday through Thursday all around the islands. NADA
They are for certain not west of Kelly I. The Nor’easter moved them and they won’t be back until spring
I had a crazy two days fishing all over the place. Started out trolling with Bandit's and Spoons Wednesday north of Cedar point in 40 feet of water all the way to Kelly's island shoal and never got a bite. Changed up the plan for Thursday trolled dipsy divers with worm harness thru South Passage. Started at Marble head to West of Kelly's and got 8 keepers. Biggest was 22 inches. 2 foot chop seemed more like three. Pretty beat up. Good luck hope this helps.
Thanks for post badboards.Good job finding some keepers when you fished.Seams these fish like the harnesses now.I walked past several charters last weekend and half of them had double willow harnesses on their rods.
Good job figuring out the program badboards. We trolled harnesses with worms in addition to Bandits and spoons. All on in line planer boards. Did not try dipsies. Not sure how dipsies would make a difference. I do know the water in the Soufh Passage was murky whereas the water out around the islands was much clearer, if that made a difference. What speed were you running? We tried 1.6 up to 2.3
We had harnesses on our dipsey and on our inline boards with 3oz weight. Those two inline boards with harnesses did not catch one keeper walleye last week. But the dipsey on 3 setting with the harnesses got like 7 keepers.I believe the turbulence from the dipsey attracts the fish better than a sinker.
I also believe that its much faster to check the dipsey lines for shorts or trash than the boards.I can bring in and reset a dipsey before I can even get a board to the boat.
I'm new to dipsy divers and only have two. I had the two dipsies set on #3 setting with harnesses. I'm learning how to detect fish on. The shorts are on and couldn't tell and at times the bigger fish pulled but thought it was the dipsies. The other two poles had bandit's on with a one once sinker but got nothing. I will troll with harnesses on them next time with a drop sinker.
I had the ipilot set to1.5 but the southern wind was doing most the pushing. If I had worms on the boat Wednesday I would have trolled them out east of Kelly's in cleaner water. There was good mark's in both places.
Lorain Walleyes;
Went out of Lorain on Monday morning, trolled the west side of the dumping grounds. pulled eleven keepers, most 17 to 20 inches, two were 23 inches. We trolled Bandits 50 feet back then 3 Oz in line weights another 50 feet before attaching to big board lines. Trolled 2.5 to 2.8 mph, blue/chrome, black/gold, and fire tiger Bandits produced well. Fire tiger blade worm harnesses on down riggers also produced well. Flat calm all day, excellent day of walleye fishing!

Well there is a stretch out there that’s 50 to 53 feet, that area has been good to me for several years, pretty much all year long!
I thought about making the trip to Lorain. It's only an extra 20 minute trip for me. I couldn't find a state park to camp at. Any suggestions.
I too trip to Lorain to put my boat in, so I’m not really aware of any camping in the immediate area. I know there is Findley State Park located at 25381 State Route 58, Wellington, Ohio 44090, phone: 440-647-4490. It is located in Lorain County south of Lorain, Ohio, probably a half hour south!
Guy last week who fished in a walleye tournament put in at Lorain but camped at East harbor, that's probably why. I'll probably do the same. Sounds like it would be worth the effort now that the fish are moving East.
go to lite bite slide divers and take the guesswork out of the short fish. don't use the slide part of the diver. tie an o ring to one end of a 6'n leader then lace the line through the back. set the rod tension tight enough your not getting false releases. then set lure tension loose enough that it'll trip on white perch but doesn't give false releases.
I like the slide aspect of it. You can get the fish closer to the boat to net it. It takes that long leader out of play. Little pricey. How deep will it dive without the ring. Looks like that is sold separately.
with the small ring it's close to a dipsy. but without the ring, I don't have a clue. but there is always a way to know the dive curve and get very close. with 80# test power pro at 1.8 to 2.0 with the diver set on 3 i went to 50' of water and slowly let out line until I started bumping bottom. took 185' to hit bottom. i divided 185' by 10' which gave me 18.5 then I divided 50' by 18.5 which gave me 2.7 which is my dive curve. now I just run the middle line 10' or 15' shorter than the front diver and the back diver 10' to 15' behind the middle diver. say I want to run 65' deep, I just divide 65 by 2.7 and I get 240' of line out and I'm bumping bottom then run my middle diver set on 2 at 225' and the back one set on 1 back 210. you can do the same thing with yours.
Slide divers without the ring are on the precision trolling app now FYI. While I’m here, I’ll throw in my two cents which is to use the slide feature for two reasons. 1) Netting fish on short leader and 2) Having ability to have longer leader in clearer water. The only downside I’ve seen to the short leader after being tripped is a steelhead will bring the whole rig out of the water when they jump (and get away)
Most guys use the #1 dipsey and there is a dive chart that comes with every dipsey you buy. They work best when you can run 2 on one side of boat.Using identical rods, you can see any difference in the curve of the rod or the angle of your line into the water. That way you can tell if a smaller fish is on the line, even if the dipsey didnt release. The line most guys use is Hi Vis Yellow power pro braid @ 30#.
That's good advice. Water conditions can come into play as well. Calm versus two footers or more I would assume. My boat was rocking the day I used it the first time. I had a pretty good fish on and didn't know it. 19 inches maybe. It's all a learning lesson.
