I currently have a regular switch operated bilge pump. I was thinkin of swapping it for an auto bilge. Anyone have any feedback on these? Do they drain the battery life? Do they work good? Should I jus install a float switch instead?
Thanks

Get the bilge switch, one that has no moving parts but senses the water. Then you can wire it direct to the battery and the hot wire coming from the switch to the pump. That way you do not have to leave your switch on but it will still pump out the water. A bonus is if you have a light or better yet a buzzer to let you know when the pump cycles on it can alert you if you have a problem in the bilge. The switch will operate just like it always did.
Both my boats have a bilge with float that automatically comes on. My 19ft er only had that, my 27 has that plus a manual turn on switch, never have a battery issue with either
