Fishing with the Montana Men 4/18 - 4/20/16

I just want to say, I have been super busy with taking care of my customers, my dogs and cats, my house guest, and my house and yard work...in that order. The blog, unfortunately, is not the highest priority on my "to do" list.
I am telling you this, because I actually got yelled at by a guy on Facebook for not blogging my "what/where/how" info for him to use. I mean.... what?? What? WHAT?

I'm a charter Captain. I share out of the goodness of my heart, WHEN I can. I am not obligated to do it, nor does anyone PAY me for my information. This is how I make my living.
If the fishing is tough, like it has been lately, I am not going to tell you to come in on me, when I have a small bite going someplace. If it's a fast bite, and there's plenty to share, I will tell you. However, my paying customers come first. Always.

I hope everyone can understand that.

So, with that said....it's been very tough with these NE and E winds lately. The fish are moving around like crazy, and it's hard to stay on top of them. Here today, and gone tomorrow, so it's not easy. When you find a small pod of fish, stay on them, and work them out....figure them out. That's half the fun of fishing.

Fishing is SO MUCH more than just putting meat in the freezer.

What I can tell you is, that since Monday, me and my Montana crew of Craig and Scott, we have fished Round Reef, Middle Bass, Green, the Ferry Channel, Mouse, Starve, and D Can. So, it's not a secret. These are all popular places during the transition, and you just need to keep checking for the next group to show up.

We have stayed with the Bandits, and they have produced some nice fish. Today, was our best day out of the three, but the fish were a little smaller. We had 35 pounds for 5 fish yesterday, and 50 pounds for 9 fish today.

The Deep Walleye 5/8 Bandit, run 55-75 back, is still the best for us. The Black Headed Wonder Bread, Blue Chrome, I Be Frozen, and Fire Tiger are our hot colors on sunny days, and the Pink Chrome/purple back, Fire Tiger, Toxic Melon, and Pink Lemonade, are better on cloudy days. Speed is still 1.5-.16mph

Tomorrow will be day 4 of their 5 day trip. Hopefully, the rains will hold off, or stay over to the west while we search for Scott's wall hanger in the morning.
We'll be heading out of Mazurik's in the morning, because the southwest wind will send waves into the launch at Catawba, and it's just easier to load up by yourself without the waves hitting your back end. :)

Wow Capt. Juls, we all, or most, I guess, really appreciate what info you give us. I can't believe someone would have the gall to get mad at you for not posting current info. You and Capt. Jim (Skipper9) are the most helpful charter captains I've ever seen. All of us rookies really appreciate it! Wakina and a few others on here are great also. Thanks to all of you, my first trip in my little boat was a good time for my grandson and a friend.Attachment 3868

I heard you on the radio today, it sounded like the bite was slow and many of us understand exactly what you are saying here. That is some great info you included in this post.

We picked up 5 today between Niagra and D can and I could not have found any fish without all the great info you and Skipper9 and the rest provide for us who are learning.

You are appreciated, I hope you did not let that post bother you in the least bit.

Even though I only get out in my day dreams, you and the others that post info that is valuable and interesting are greatly appreciated.

Juls, I always appreciate people who do whatever is required to please their customers, which you obviously do. Don't let some inconsiderate post get you down. I've learned a lot from your posts and appreciate you taking the time to write them. Keep up the good work.

Capt. Juls, this is my first post ever here but I have been reading your blogs for years. That said, I certainly don't EXPECT you to tell us anything! I find your blogs informative and entertaining and of course I love looking at the walleye porn. Thanks for sharing with us. You seem like a 1st class fisherwoman and person.

I'm new here and reading and learning all I can. I just wanted to say thanks for all of the valuable information you post. It truly is appreciated.

I also can't thank you and everyone else on this site enough for sharing info, tips, and stories. I only get to fish the western basin a couple times per year and rely heavily on these posts to get me in the right direction. I then try to figure it out from there while on the water. So THANK YOU!!!!

I agree the fish are hard to stay on with these north east winds. I was up last week and never found the fish in the same place 2 days in a row. I need to set up a trip with you soon as I need to learn more on trolling with small boards and I have just purchased a Hummingbird Helix 7 and need some instructions on how to better use it. Again thanks for the reports.

Jules, clearly whoever put you on blast on fb must not need any help and is perfect at finding fish all the time, at least I hope so. Cause what will happen is when ppl do stupid stuff like that, those with great quantities of information like you, skipper9 and any of the other many captains that share information will be less likely to share their hard earned and found information with the rest of us.

So to whoever did that, we all should be thanking those who share when they can, not blasting them for not, for whatever the reasons may be.

The more we all share the better we all will do, so share if you can, not just where you did good, but where we might had stuck out. It's all good info and useful.

I have been concerned about the lack of posting activity by Capt Juls myself. Not because there was a lack of fishing information but concerned she may have taken ill or for some other dire reason. Don't let that poster get under your skin! You can always block or unfriend that person if they continue to be rude. Cheers and keep up the good work.

Just want to say thanks for your many posts that help to promote fishing, and your willingness to share your knowledge with the rest of us. I can only imagine the time it tanks to post all the time, especially after long days on the lake. Thanks for your love and support for this great sport we love.

hope to have good luck myself, going out with my two boys for the first trip of the season this week end. get to smell that 2 cycle exhaust that brings back all those great fishing memories
