What's your preferred program?
Jim, i use them all (many in combination) depending on conditions, but because you asked for a "preferred" method, I chose dipsys because they (1) catch fish and (2) can be set/reset very quickly compared to some of the other methods.
We fished Central basin Saturday. 13 Walleye taken home: 3 off down rigger 10 off Dispy. Just one day out of complete season but Dipsy is quickly becoming my favorite.
#1- Leadcore all season
#2- Dipsys mid and late season
#3- Jets early season 10 & 20 jets
#4- snap weights with leadcore late season
any reason copper isn't an option?
My guess copper just hasn't caught on yet its just now really getting use un force on lake O give it a few yrs you'll hear more of it here. Also i bet those who are using copper keep it hushed up, it's their secret weapon so to say.
Jets , snap wieghts, dipseys & riggers pretty much in this order as the season progresses. Not into the leadcore too much.
Never thought about putting copper on there...lol
I would have to say day in and day out dipseys perform well for me.
Leadcore is good for stealth when fish get spooked. All of our bigger fish this year were off leadcore. My grandparents used to use leadcore back in the 60s and up for Muskie and northerns.
Lead core, 5,7,10 has been the thing, dipsy's sometimes. Modified stick or body baits, shallow runner style, purple-silver, black-slver. Have ran only one harness, one trip this season. We are newbies to Lake Erie walleye trolling, but the presentation is workin for us. Lucky I guess.
I would be willing to do a "training" charter for you Greenhead, let me know if your interested and we can discuss pricing.
Dipsys have been our number one producer this year. Not sold on copper yet. Ran it a few times and still seem to prefer lead core. Copper does have its advantages however when it comes to achieving depth.
They all have their own time and place on the lake. I don't believe one program works everyday from April thru November. My wife compares my fishing gear to her shoe closet, something different for every situation.:)
I'm fairly new to this walleye fishing but here's my 2 cents, I prefer jets and snap weights in spring, changing to dispys and torpedoes. I just started using torpedoes and I'm impressed. Seem to be very accurate and repeatable, think there my new favorite. I just seem to have a hard time finding the fish... Been a long month, very little success.
