night fished again between 1100- 1230 and ended up with a very nice 3 man limit .8-10ft of water once again . Love the sound of fish splashing around you chasing bait . Casting deep little rippers did the damage again . dont understand why more prople do not night fish Erie . So quite and no dealing with other boats. So peaceful and quit .

Will be coming to Marblehead 5/28, never night fished but sounds like fun, any idea where some good spots to start would be in that vicinity? Also looking for an evening charter for two people on the 29th.

I have night fished the Islands area for about 60 years now and here are my thoughts to your questions. To begin with, yes it is one of the most productive methods of fishing you can use there now. Keep these thoughts in mind.
1. Find the shallowest water you can that is surrounded by deeper water for the fish to come up from.
2. When you pick your spot anchor, do not drift.
3. longer minnow type crank baits such as count down or floating Rapalas. work great. Keep your retrieves ultra slow.
4. Oraganize the boat before it gets dark so you know where things are. Don't move around too much with other guys casting around you, it gets dangerous with those big lures in the dark.
Places that come to mind are the south side of the rattles at Rattlesnake. again get in close about 5-6 feet of water, the reef west of North Bass on the hump about 5 feet deep. Close in on the north side of North Bass.
Usually just after dark in these areas you will encounter smallmouth then the walleyes. and as mentioned you will hear them on the surface. They will work very shallow water and on top feeding. I usually find the best fishing to start about and hour after dark. It is not uncommon to have a limit of fish in a half hour.
Oh and check your line and retie if need after every fish.
Keep two lights handy, one small one for working on you lure line etc. and a big one in case something bad happens and you need to see a guy in the water etc.
Hope this answers at least some of the questions, above all safety is more of a concern in the dark than on a bright sunny day.

The spot was Lake Erie . gave the depth and baits . Wont give the exact spot as these are spots I grew up night fishing with my dad and grandfather for over 40 years and both since have passed. Sorry you feel that I owe it to you to tell you where these hard found spots are .
Once again if you know anything about lake erie and own a map of the Lake there are hundreds of spots that could hold fish at night .
Next time to make it easier for all you cry babies , how about we catch the fish and just give them to you . Wont get any easier then that for you ???

I grew up in Indiana and never picked up a fishing pole till a few years ago. Thanks to the guys here I can catch a fish now n then.
I'm still a mediocre fisherman, but it sure helps and saves me a bunch of gas money if I read a report. Maybe your dad left you a fortune and you can run all over hells half acre looking for fish, I know I can't as a common working stiff.
Dont put much into saving gas as most of these spots are well offshore and community spots . You would be surprised just how many fish you are running over to get to that well named spot . Then you get to fight all the traffic in that spot with people trolling all different ways , in front of each other , side of each other .. Sounds like fun ahh ????
Try looking at a good map for nearshore structure and you will find fish in closer anytime of the year and pretty much have the place to your self . Back in the day when there was no internet things were different . Now you post a spot and the next day there is 100 boats there and you cant even make it to your numbers due to traffic in that area . Believe me I dont burn through nearly as muchgas as these guys running 10-15 miles out at all . There are a ton of fish to be caught in water less then 20ft deep but 99% run to where the charters are and reports are instead of stopping and looking in closer..

Actually this guy sounds exactly like a former member who went by the name of WalleyeWhacker or a very similar spelling. The WalleyeWhacker also stirred up controversy and made fun of other members abilities as a whole. He had a particular dislike for one of the Charter services now on this site who was here at that time also, by the way this Charter Service does post open spots and charters for walk on and group charters to fill their openings. WalleyeWhacker also gave false reports then laughed at people for listening to him. Since I have been here I have asked for nothing and posted about my nite bite fun as its a great experience and thought some might enjoy trying it ... I unlike others here dont need the spot with all the goodies to go with it but Im bad for not giving it up ???? People can do a lot knowing the depth and baits as this is good for most of the lake ..
Fishing use to be for outdoors men but I guess people change over time as well .. I dont care what anyone says , the best feeling in the world is finding and catching your own fish with the knowledge you build up over time by trail and error. running to someones yesterdays spot lots of times dont pan out then your accused of being a liar . Part of fishing is the hunt to find the fish then catch them ... Seems todays fishermen use the web to find fish and cannot see how thats rewarding ..Its like finding gold yourself and have everyone else come running in . Let someone elsedo the work so you reap the goods .. Sound fair ???? By the way a few of you guys who been here for a while know who I am and have even talked several times ..

What if your Granddad and dad had said the same things to you? Where or how did your granddad find out about your secret fishing spots? You have alluded to being a currently inactive but still Licensed Captain and that you in the past had been active for about 7 years. Did you find it difficult to hold your nose while on the water with these lazy, illiterate know nothing fishermen and women? After all being a charter Captain goes against just about everything that you have posted about the fishermen encountered today on these open forums.
Please provide us with your current USCG license number so that those of us who want to check you out can do so. You made the offer and I personally want to take you up on it.

It's ok fishhead315 you can call it anything that you want everyone expects that from you now.
Your standing in the walleye dot com networking community started on the bottom rung of the ladder just like the all of us did, but unlike most of the other 99.999% you have worked your way down from there.
I want nothing from you! I need nothing from you! There is nothing that you have to offer that I would want. You are a miserable example of what a member of Walleye dot com should be and you are obviously proud of that position!
