Charity Tournament
Good day everyone, I am looking to start planning a charity fishing tournament for the Wounded Warrior Project for the spring/summer of 2013 depending on how things go. Just curious on the amount of participation I could get out of the fine people that make walleye.com what it is.
Here is what I am thinking,
Teams and cost: 4 man teams 25 dollars per person or 100 per team, If possible I would like to get the wounded soldiers involved and out fishing on several boats, depending on the participation. I will have to check on the legal technicalities. (that would make 5 man teams, and the warrior's entry fee would be waived)
Placing: Most pounds of total fish, perch or walleye within legal limits.
Largest Sheep head.
Proceeds and pay out:
Donating 1/2 proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project, and the other 1/2 to pay out the placing teams. All teams would have the option of donating fish to food pantries in the area. Not sure on how the pay out would work yet, I guess it would depend on participation. Like I said I am currently brain storming the idea, and I am open to all suggestions, and feedback.

Count me in
I am all for the idea as the Wound Warrior Project is fantastic. I worked quite a bit in DC at Walter Reed a 2 years ago and was able to help several soldiers coming back from you know where with bad wounds to get healed up with with a therapy the company I work for makes.
It would be an honor for me to have a soldier join me and my buddy on my boat.
I AM IN!!!!

I think it is a great idea buddy. Maybe you could include free shirts as part of an advertisement ploy to spread the word about it and make it something great! I think the sheephead part is great idea to kind of a twist on a not so good fish, but could still make you some money. Maybe 50 bucks to the biggest sheephead and then pay out the first 5 spots. Then maybe first place gets paid out and half price charter on my great buddies world class dream catcher charters. I think you are on to something great!!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep them coming, so far 2 people interested hope to hear more people willing to participate.

Howdy, not sure if you know about this or not. This will be the second annual on saginaw bay. If you contact Nels, ( he's a great guy) he can help you with alot of info. Or maybe even bring one to erie. Another thing to help raise $$ for example, I donated about 400 spinner blades and spoons that they will sell at the event. Others have started to donate product as well. You can look at some photo's and videos from last year using the tab near the top of the page.

charity
great idea if i am off work i would do it.
-
What a fantastic idea I'm In what about sponsors
-
-
I'm in if i don't have to work
-
I also would be interested
-
I'm interested. I think instead of total weight of all fish you limit it to 5 fish. This way smaller teams wouldn't be handicapped.
-
Thanks for the support guys, putting the plan into action, have been talking to director of wounded warrior, come to find out he was also in ranger battalion before I was, anyways he seems pretty excited bout the idea. As far as sponsors I plan on talking to the area business, bait shops, marinas, fish cleaning places and what not see if and what they are willing to help out with. Got a good friend that builds and wraps rods talking about donating a custom rod. See what other kinds of door prizes I can come up with as far as that goes. My wife is working on shirt ideas, something with wounded warrior logo on the front and sponsor logos and team names on the back. Not sure on the best location to hold it, any suggestions give me some influence and ideas on where everyone thinks would be best. I was leaning towards wild wings, fenwick, somewhere like that. Also as far as 5 fish limit I do like the idea keeping a nice even cap across the board to make things fair for everyone. Keep up the suggestions ladies and gents they are much appreciated.

Talked to my buddy about this today and he said to count his boat in, and Hhe'd be more than welcome to take a WW with us. Would it be to hard to pull one together in 2012 yet??
-
Yes that's what I figured looking at spring of 2013. Thanks for the support.
-
I am also interested. Have room for a WW as well.

I'm in. Sounds like an awesome idea!

It is my full intention to have a boat by then! However, if that doesn't go as planed I have a friend who is a wounded warrior which I would love to get involved if any of you would be so kind. Either way I will participate through either fishing, donating, or both.

I would be game for this if the time and place is right! I will be having alot of family events taking place in the spring and early summer of 2013, Grand Kids graduating and State wrestling tournaments in KY and awards banquets. I would have room for a W.W. also if the timing is right! Once you get it put together the response will be high!

I just need to set a date and location and submit that to WW to actually have it set as an event, I will be heading up to the marinas today after work to get a date and location set. Will post as soon as I have a date and location l, does anyone have location suggestions? Fenwick, wild wings, turtle creek?

tourney
need more information, date times what marina, casting, trolling or both, price. Reel Sport Charter team

Your also going to need a LOT of volunteers, tents, tables, chairs Fish cleaners and fish cleaning area. Food, drink. Any motel/hotels that will give discounts. You could look at the walleye for warriors release forms. Hopefully you can get someone to print up Tee shirts. A ramp that has good bathrooms and handicap accessable. I think the main thing is to get them out fishing. The tourney is secondary. If you do it later in the summer, huron boat basin might be able to handle it. But probably best if you do it early to mid may next year. That way having a short run from fenwicks or where ever to the reefs.
-
Make it 50 per man, four man teams. Not that expensive and you get twice the money. Also, like the walleye for warriors deal. Maybe just piggyback off of that. Either way I am down for it!!
-
Thanks for the suggestions and support, I will take all advice into consideration, beings I have never planned an event like this before. I was leaning towards the weekend following memorial day, beings it would be patriotic, I have yet to hear back from wounded warrior about getting the warriors involved in the tournament, I think that will be a major selling point for this one, but never the less its all to a good cause. I have verbal commitments from a DJ and some local businesses for their support and services, I was up at Fenwick today to talk to Kathy, but she was already gone for the day, I will try again tomorrow. As far as t-shirts go that should be no problem, will speak with fish cleaners and other places as the planning progresses as for now I am trying to lock down a day and location. Thanks again for all the support.
