What is the best line to use for trolling on Lake Erie?
30 lb power pro.
Thanks Skipper !
Use 20 pound mon as a filler.
I appreciate the help
It is hard to beat this guys prices and I can vouch for his service as I have bought line from him in the past and as recently as this month. You will want the Power Pro Spectra Braid. There are 2 links one is to his store and the other is for his 30lb Power Pro Spectra Braid.

If I can add my two cents I learned a very valuable lesson this past season. If you reels have line counters the amount of line added to the spool affects the accuracy of the line counter. I marked off 50' and 100' feet and kept adding line until the counter was accurate. For example I had Okuma 30dx and added 900' of mono and 500' of 30 power pro. I'm switching over to daiwa 27lc and just measured one out this morning 600' 20# mono 500' power pro the line counters dead on at 25, 50, 75, 100, 125.

Tales, I have the diawa 27's...I like them cause there not to big, but the convector 30's seem awesome. If Jim has told you any stories of me tring to be CHEAP, i had problems with line accuracy- spools not full enough.
This is for everyone as Fish Tales said, check your accuracy with a tape measure to be sure- it make a difference especially when your sharing line leads with your buddies out on the water, you can be 48' back- but your not if your spool isn't full.
whats is the count down...95 days or so!
Well get the lines calibrated and replaced, let it snow and GO!
somthin fishy- Ron
What are you planning on trolling....cranks, jets, dipsys? I like 12 lb. mono for cranks and braid for dipsys and jets.
30 lb Power Pro , Fill up the spools equally. Then once you get out on the water do the boat n troll length test. Go out to 20 ft of for 20 jets or 30ft for 30 jets (as an example), let out line slowly until you just start to hit bottom. Then read the counter number. Does it match the book. For me anyway, 30 jets at 100 ft out reach about 24ft. Boat speed will change this of course. Trolling seems like a Math problem most days.
I just hope the fishing this year is as good as last year.... I know I am ready... I taught you guys to well I am gonna have to stay on my game just to stay ahead of you... This year... Fish tales your gonna be hard to catch this year....
Skipper, all other fisherman are Gilligans compared to you!
I agree with you skipper I hope next year is as good as this year. I am going to work on the boat this weekend in the barn. Maybe it will help the bug to get back out there a bit.
Just bought line on ebay. This guy has a great deal on power pro and others. I could not beat it after searching till fingers got sore. Example 30lb 500yds is only 32,99 IN STOCK and free shipping. You may want to check it out. United Outdoors. They are in illinois. High Drifter, Rick

Nice find!!
I have saved his address for future purchase. I just put line on 2 new Tekota Reels seems like that is the only time that I need to by line is for new reels. I am still using line that is 5 years old on some of my reels and it still tests at the breaking strenght. I don't know if the older line is power-pro or tuff-line.
Geez,
Just when I think I'm wrapping my mind around the equipment needed, there is the line counter problem... Lol
Best to all

Hey guys not putting a fly in the ointment here but I would have to say there are "better" lines for different situations. Now the question was for Lake Erie Trolling. If you are pulling dipsies I would say yes then power pro 30 is the best. You can use the 10 pound dive curve and get about the same depths. Now my set up is 12 pound Trilene Big Game (Mono) for pulling Reefs or harnesses is Mono. Only because mono has stretch, which in my opinion results in more hook ups and success in landing the fish. Power Pro is the only way to go on the dipsies in order to have a successful trip each time. So what we do is 6 lines spooled with mono, 6 spooled with power pro and we can use what ever lines the situation called for. I know many guys we fish with to a similar set up. If you had to chose one or the other, I would say pick the line to fit the program you run the majority of the time.
