Copo boat or shore?
Oops my bad. Boat bailey. Got dr, boards(probably wont run em) jets n dipsys.
Also what's a cutbait rig, where can I get some and what to use for cutbait
I run spoons, spin drs, j plugs and a few dodger fly rigs i have as far as cut bait maybe narbys or captains cove by point breeze or slippery sinker in olcott and they may have cut bait. Look on lake Ontario united south shore posts join if not on already. Use dipsys and riggers set to where marks are if we dont get to bad of blow this weekend should be good and better the next few when are you heading up and where.
Already joined on Lou. I'm thinkin next weekend is when I wanna head up. Not sure where I wanna launch, either fish the bar, Wilson or olcott. I've never fished the lake by boat so I'm green there. I've only stream fished.
Its nothin but a thing ill go out of the point if ua add a few miles youll have friends in the water. I know a few and they'll share info. Rough riders posts are good he shows what he is catching with. If its nice i hope to get out actually got a crew lined up so far. Hope isaac goes towards mid west.
Bailey. What's the point?
Copo pm me your number
I fished out of olcott today, we got 1 brown & 1 steelie. We only fished 50 - 140 fow , marked very little. Our first time up there sense spring. We talked to a charter capt. & he said to go out to 500 fow for kings (8-10 miles out) more of a constant temp. out there.
I went up last Saturday and Sunday out of Olcott. I only have two wire dipsy rods for salmon fishing as all my other gear is for walleyes and way too light. We were fishing 200-250 feet fow on Saturday and had the divers down about 80 ft. Marked a ton of bait fish and fish but didn't catch anything. Most of the boats were fishing in 60-100 fow in full combat mode. On Sunday I caught a well written report for Olcott on LOU and they were fishing 350-450 fow and did well on flasher / fly combos.
Sunday I followed a charter boat out and got far away from the close in battle lines. We marked tons of bait and fish down 55-60 ft over 350 fow. We let our dipsys out on the wire 120 and 130 which is about 60 down. Didn't take long to hit a 20 lb King on an Atomik fly off a white with green dot Spin Doctor. About half hour later got a 12 lb Coho on the same rig and about an hour later finished the day with a 25 lb King again on the SD / fly combo. The other diver had a spoon on and we missed one hit on that rod. Everything was between 350-400 ft of water about 60 down and GPS speed was 2.8-3 mph. Hope this helps.
Copo headed out of the oak in the am let ya know how it goes.
Well first skunk in the boat since southtowns opener maybe i should've headed west not north this AM i heard erie was beautiful this morn. I marked a few fish little bait the wind i am sure had lots to do with it been some big blows last few days.
Did you fish inside? Someone else over on Lou said it was quiet today also. I'm thinkin that wind blew the water around.
Yeah i was 100 fow some marks around 90 fow lots of boats not a lot of catching i'll give it another try on weekend may hit erie for perch before hand.
Hopefully the lake stabilizes and more fish move into staging areas by next weekend. Depending on my floating in the air plans for the weekend we might hit Erie this weekend for perch.
All reports I read were 100-150fow. 90-110 down.
Yeah saw that, i just didnt get east far enough thats where they were but its fishing not catching. By this weekend they will stack up better.
Bailey- do you use your same poles for walleye & salmon? Or do you have a heavier test line?
Same gear joe 30# on dipsy rods but change leader from 14 to 20# and shorten length to 6' . And my other rods are rigged with 20# except a couple with 14 which i run high on Ontario or off riggers for eyes. All rods medium action. I think off shore bite still a little better still rain or temp drop will spark it up though.
I fish out of Olcott a lot. Right now things are really slow. Fish are out of temps and staging. Guys did ok earlier last week at the bar, trolling the shelf. That's shut down again as well. I wouldn't even waste my time going to Wilson or Olcott right now. Fish are moving east towards Salmon river. If I was going to make a special trip, I'd go to Sodius. Different water fish are still active. A lot of river water from Olcott to the west. You can't use ruff riders reports and fish the same fow in Olcott like someone kinda mentioned. If you do fish Wilson or Olcott stay anywhere from 35' to 80' looking for staged kings. Maybe get into some browns. Also green dot crush glow spinnies , marriage flies have been the most productive. Dipsies are producing more than any other presentation. . Mag glow spoons, moonshines. The off shore bite is garbage right now. You might get some steelhead but no one is getting kings. It's all tough at the western end right now so don't have high expectations! Good luck!
Ok heading to olcott tomorrow afternoon til Sunday. Got a hotel room for the weekend. Anyone have any tips on which way to go out of the harbor? Bailey. You need to blow off work Saturday and come fish both days with us. I'm ready to slay some salmon. I'm just hopin they're ready to bite.
I'd fish the bar first. Troll the shelf. Olcott has been garbage for a couple weeks now. Fish are moving east. If you launch out of fort Niagara go about three miles straight out and you'll find the red can. Start there and head NE untill you find the drop. Stay right on that shelf. If you're going to fish Olcott head north east out of the harbor and do the usual troll, microwave tower to the power plant. The bite is slow. And probably won't pick up. Fish are staged and not eating. You may be able to get a mixed bag with some browns, Lakers and steelies. Stay inshore, you won't find any mature kings out by the 28-30 line (8-10 miles out). I'd fish from 30 to 80 fow of water, maybe get a mature to get Angry Enough to bite!! Try using some stick baits in shore, mag glow spoon, moonshines, and of course spinnies and flies. Green dot crush glow would be the first color spin doc to get out and go from there.
Copo, better check the radar, lake ontario is covered with storms from here to Roch. - Watertown! go back to bed lol.
Big line of thunder storms coming across of Erie. I'm just like you sitting in the kitchen, looking outside, checking the weather map.
Fyi Everyone. - today. (?) Maybe it the antique, classic boat show at the Buffalo Launch Club on Grand Island. I've gone before and always had a great time. If the weather allows??????
Fished waverly last night , got 4-5 bass no eyes, quit at midnight , the eyes beat me again !
That was a smart move to get out yesterday. Looks like this weekend may be a washout.?? Maybe the WEATHER GODS will prove the Weathermen wrong and it will clear up for tomorrow.
Man it just started blowing all of a sudden. Just can't catch a break. Maybe we will try the mouth of the river tomorrow if the lake is bad. Like bailey just told me, at least it wasn't that far of a drive for a bed and breakfast. Lol.
It was blowing so bad that we were almost taking waves over the bow in the river. Headed up river to art park. Never been up in a boat. Kinda freaky. If I can't get out on the lake tomorrow any tips for the art park drift. Like how far offshore. Depth ect. I see it's deep in there. Just never fished it by boat. I have a bow mount troll motor.
The weather let us out on the lake Sunday. Turned out to be a nice day. We got off to a slow start in the morning do to boat speed but once we found our speed they slammed the spin n flys. Went 5 for 8. Big shout to bailey for coaching over the phone. Wish you could have came out with us but drunk watching sounded pretty damn fun sat night. Thanks to everyone for ur tips for lake O.
Anyone know if anything is going on in the lower river ? We were thinking of trying it this week due to the winds & waves.
Salmon are available in the hole. Bass throughout the whole lower and walleye in the usual spots. Did about a dozen decent bass and 1 walleye drifting sunday afternoon for a couple hours.
Fitz
Plan is to fish the lower river tomorrow AM. try for some trout . The perch have been slow & small so far on erie. Of course fri. or sat. I'll hear you should have been here yesterday on erie!
