I did good at Niagara, Friday June 5th, using minows in 29 fow. We caught about 29 good yellow perch and the bigest was 13 inches.
Got 16 nice perch, 8-10 inch range, no real hogs, but nice none the least.
Only fished about 2 hours just east of the green can at Niagara reef in 29 fow using spreaders with minows and no bling. Had a night crawler on one half of the spreader to see if the perch would like that but we had no takers!
The bite was real light and I think those mayflies have even affected the perch fishing too!
I had a good friend take their boat out of Lorain last Sunday perch fishing. Four of them caught 40 nice fish. When one of the guys handed his rod to the young girl to reel in, what he thought was a really big sheephead, she hauled in a 31" 10.5 lb Walleye. Not bad for a little perch spreader and a minnow. That just made their day. You just never know what's gonna happen out there, that's why we gotta get out there.
Went perchin 6/14/09 in 44fow off the 2 apt.bldgs.west of Wildwood. 2 of us got our limit of perch, but had to work hard. 60 perch got us 6 1/2 lbs of meat total. We fished from 8am to 3pm. We just stuck it out. There were very good walleye reports, we will try Tue. for some walleye. Good fishin.
fished with spreaders/shiners 32 fow west/nw of west sister 4 miles. 10 nice perch over 9 inches, 3 over 11 inches, plus 1 22 inch walleye. Caught a lot of throwback perch too 20-30 6 inch or less.
We got 30 nice perch in 29 fow just east of the green buoy at Niagara Reef.
Only fished 2 hours, had some small ones that we threw back, but most were 8-10 inchers. We used spreaders and minows. There was a big hatch Saturday Night , Sunday morning, My boat was covered with those May Flies! Looked like downtown Port Clinton had a bug feastival!
Anchored just east of the green buoy marker at Niagara reef in 30 fow. Used a spreader with minows and caught 12 perch 8-10 inch range, 10 throwbacks. Used a mayfly rig tiped with a night crawler and golden sinker. Caught two Walleye one was 20 in. and the other 22!:D
No wind at all, fished in the am and there was alot of mayfly hatches in the water~ looked like bug soup:eek:
Anyway, a good day on the lake!
Well, we did not do great today, caught 10 perch just east of the Green buoy at Niagara Reef in 29 fow. Using minows and spreaders. We got a late start, a boat just north of us seemed to be doing good they had 6 seagulls around them most of the time, you know thats a good sign.
Anyway, I will try again at Niagara Reef, but I think I will start running more towards Kellys if It seems to stall out a Niagara Reef.
Fished in 40' of water east of Kelly nothing but a sheephead. Went back off the lighthouse in 30-34' nothing. Been there 4 times in the laast week and did well. Marked fish but they would not bite. Will try again Tues. afternoon.
Took my wife out saturday and fished south of B can and we limeiet out in less than two hours. We had several doubbles and alot of through backs. It was an awsome day on the water with her. I also herd north of B can about two miles out.
Fished off MarbleHead and put 44 in the box on Monday and put 40 in the box today. Minnows cut in half really seems to turn them on.
Fished just east of Niagara Reef in 30 fow anchored for perch. Caught 16 8-10 inch perch and 2 walleye. Walleye were 18-20 inches. Lost one walleye at the boat. For the walleye used a mayfly rig with night crawler fished right on the bottom. For the perch used a spreader with ninows right on the bottom.
Caught 8 sheephead and a few white perch. Great day on the lake weather wise :)
Waterdog where are you going out off to get to Niagra and how far of a run is it?
Oak Harbor would be closest if there is a launch and would put you within 8 miles of Niagra. I use the Portage River and it is 10.5 miles at 346 heading. The West launch from catawba would put you abou the same distance or a little closer. 9 miles or so at a 325 roughly but check that one out before you run it.
Fished by E can and caught 12 7-8 inch perch. There was this green floating chunks of algae in the water. Went out south of Niagara and drifted. Caught sheephead and one throwback walleye 14". Was using may fly rig tiped with a night crawler. Waves were 1 foot or less and the drift was .5 mph. Nice!:D
Got 12 perch today, did it drifting. Put a spreader out with two minows and casting a mayfly rig in 20 fow. I started out east of round reef. Caught one 15" walleye, and 12 sheephead. Several sheephead were 22 ".
great drift .5 mph then by noon wind picked up.
fished b can and east of the can, picked up 3 perch in two hours, moved to L can no luck there, pulled the boat moved to catawaba, picked up 2 fish in the first 5 mins off the green bouy, picked up no more fish, called it a day, just a bad day on the lake anyone else??
caught 25 perch, 8-11" in 30 fow nw of rattlesnake island.
Was using a spreader tiped with minnows, atached to a 2 oz bottom bouncer, it was windy for most of the am, then it settled down. I was drifting for the most part of the day, was trying to catch walleyes.
For the walleye I was using a golden mayfly tiped with a night crawler, I caught perch on it, some nice 11" ones, on that rig.
Fished just east of the green buoy at Niagara Reef in 29 fow and caught a two man limit of nice yellow perch. Caught a few white perch but no sheep head and no walleye. A real soft bite! Caught some nice jumbos! A few throwbacks. We were using minows and a spreader and no bling.
Fished just east of the green buoy at Niagara Reef in 29 fow and caught a two person limit of nice yellow perch. A soft bite, with some more agressive hits mixed in! Caught some nice jumbos! A few throwbacks. We were using minows and a spreader and no bling. Most fish were 8 inchers. Got the limit in two hours!:D
Waterdog, Are you in a hard top thompson?
Anyone have luck catching sizable perch off Lorain this past weekend?
Most who perched were in 40 fow, 2 miles out this past weekend. Best bites were off Beaver Park, but lots of small ones (D'Arcy's report was right on). Also tried off Avon Pt. both east (lots of white perch) and west, but no real bites there. Stopped at Ardicks, and he showed me buckets full of perch in the 4-5" size that idiots brought him. Ridiculous!
I sent my underwater camera down to record and see what was down there on Sunday, and really, there were no big ones down there at all, hardly any fish around. I'll be back out in Lorain on Sunday to find them again... I have a feeling the large ones are 6+ miles out off Lorain like they were in late Aug-Sept last year.
After giving up on the perch, I picked up 2 eyes (24" & 26") on green erie dearies 6-7 miles out @ the 38-15 line. 'Eyes were suspended around 16-18 feet.
caught 22 nice perch , just east of Niagara Reef in 29 fow.
