I am heading over to the wildwings area this weekend because I have the fever like the rest of you. Can anyone point me in the right direction to a good bait shop that has a good stock of hair jigs and blade baits. Much appreciated.

There are a few. Dreamcatchers ( The old Bait Barn) opened 3/12. A'n'J supposably always open. Happy Hooker has limited hours.

Thank you but I have no clue where those are. Do you by chance know the road and or town. Im from northeastern ohio and dont know my way around over there. In the meantime I will do my best to find them on the old internet.
All of the bait stores mentioned are on Rt 2 west of Port Clinton. Check out western basin reports and you will see some of dreamcatchers jigs. And you can get his website info for the address. Hope this helps and FISH ON

Thank you very much. I am heading over sometime this weekend to stock up. Much appreciated..
Hey fellas got me a good stock of hair jigs today and I am looking forward to my first jigging trip. I went heavy on the purple and greens in both the 1/2 and 3/4, does that make sense? I have a couple of questions for the vets. Stinger hook or not? Tip the hair jig or not? Where is the easiest closest ramp for a rookie to head to. Veteran fisherman but rookie at the western basin jig bite. Also I am worried about all the shallow reefs and such any pointers on that. Thanks
Please be a bit more specific. Did you visit the bait shops along Rt.2 that were
suggested? If this is the area you want to be in The most popular are Fenwick
and Wild Wings that takes you out to the reef complex.

No I did not head up there for the jigs I found a local shop in Ravenna that carried old petes,. Yes Gene that is the area I am trying to head out to, I have no experience west of cranberry creek. I am wanting to find somewhere in the area of the reef complex to try the jig bite but I am unfamiliar with the area as far as ramps and location. I have been to wild wings one time but was unable to go out last year due to weather. Is the reef complex close to wildwings. I have some pretty good maps on the lowrance but its in the shop getting some rodholders put on right now so I am just trying to find somewhere really to try the jigbite .
Sure enough, both Wild Wings and Fenwick would be good choices along with
Turtle Creek and other alternatives would be Turtle Pt. and Magee East ( formerly Inland Marina)
Gene
Yes on stinger hooks. Bait usually dont matter when jigging
its pretty simple...get you some 3/4 ounce jigs is all I use purple...black/purple...white bluish orange and purple/chartrues is all youll need hair jigs, no bait and of course stingers, cast up on the ledges of the reefs usually L can is hot as well and is a lil farther out towards west sister island...crane creek...turtle creek ...are all of my favorites, crib is the shallowest that I know of and I stay clear away from it, I do fish Niagra as well but would rather stay in close...I go out of wild wings every week during jig season....Good Luck and keep in touch.......! ps I go by Iowa Charlie on 69 or you can keep up to date on here or facebook or can call me as well 319-981-5433
Thanks Captain Charlie. I am looking forward to heading up. Is there a good website that you know of that shows the reefs in the western basin. I think my Lowrance has them but I haven't got the boat out of shop yet and just wanting to do some scouting. I might even consider taking a charter out to show me the ropes before I go out and tear up my lower unit.
Hey I seen your posting of the maps in the other thread. Rookies like me appreciate the leg work for info like that. Thank You
well heres how I figured out things in short order...I have never hit anything on that lake EVER, and I would think its impossible too if you just stay clear of crib reef and thats towards the islands and firing range area to the east, you will be fishing to the west, or at least thats where the fish are...I would put my boat in turtle creek, or wild wings in which is steep, go out of the cut to t he lake and just stay to the left, youll see a crowd for sure, I have a 30 ft maycraft center console witha 250 E-TECH and it says ERIE FEELING down the sides in big black letters, I stay at the camper 270 at wild wings when im in town, thats my home sweet home when im there from my home in Iowa and I travel there weekly during jig season, and you can always come and go with me for a time or two and stay as well, I like to party though and im in bed by 10 most nights and up at 5 ready to do it again....
I appreciate it.
