Jigging Rods and Tip Ups

First post on this site. I've been reading for a while, so I have some knowledge..

Question 1: I haven't read anything about guys using tip ups for walleyes. Zero. Is this not a method that catches fish on Erie? Also, it seems most guys are fishing sun up to sun down. No night time eyes here?

Question 2: What's the favorite rod and reel combo for eyes? What line size is popular? I would think I would use a minimum of 8lb test for these big fish.

Question 3: How many lines can a guy use? I'm from WI, so having three tip ups in is the norm.
