Does anyone ever tip their jigs with crawlers during early spring?
Any tipping with shiners when the water is dirty ? Does smell help ?
I always tip with minnows. Some say it doesn't matter. Just don't tip if your pitching & flipping. You will snap the minnow off. A lot of people also take the stinger off when pitching. Your call. Good luck and good fishing
I am convinced that a feeding walleye will eat a piece of furry lead bristling with hooks and smelly paint. :)
The walleye will take a bare jig or jig with a worm nearly the same. Late April and early May a bare jig will work normally but use a shiner for insurance. Mid 50 degree water temps they start eating worms. The bare hook time is the hungry time. You cant beat a jig n minnow. Save the worms for another couple weeks or so. Report after Wednesday and Thursday's charters.
Do you guys think the reef bite will still be on early next week?
Live bait is "thee" walleye bait. last year we fished harnesses with worms in 45 degree water. Walleye will always eat worms. i don't tip the jigs much. When I do it is minnows
