Thought this posted a couple days ago but I guess something glitched so posting again.......
Made it up to the boat Friday around 2 and started fishing around 4. Went to the spot Western Basin was saying he was having luck, right around the line N/NE of MBI green can. Marked an absolute TON of stuff but I think a lot of it was mayflies. What fish were there werent interested in biting other than 5 monster sheephead. Fished around the bottom and about 15-20' down in 40ish feet of water. 1 pink worm harness and 1 gold.
Stayed at PIB Friday night for some Frosty's pizza and to be closer to some spots for Saturday. Got up Sat. and after getting some coffee and clearing off 15,000,000 mayflies from the boat, headed back to the same spot as the day before. There were a handful of boats in that general area, some drifting, some trolling. Didn't see near as many marks and didn't see anyone else pulling. Drifted 2 drifts in that area with nothing so picked up and moved to NE side of Kelleys. Basically was the same in that spot too. Handful of boats drifting, some marks, no action.
Decided to just make the "long" run to the CP Dumping grounds which I know are a pretty good spot this time of year. Joined about 20-30 boats working that area and saw some guys pulling so slowed her down and started lookin for marks. Marked good amount near bottom and some suspended so stopped for a drift. Ended up doing 4 drifts, caught 3-4 shorts in the first, then caught my 6 in the next 3 drifts. All right near bottom and using gold harnesses. 1 bonus MONSTER catfish but he came off about 20' from the boat which i was fine with because I was in process of catching a nice keeper eye on the other rod.
Glad to punch a ticket and was a beautiful couple days on the lake despite NOAA being way wrong on their wave heights (as usual) ;).
We are heading up tonight cause my daughter got drawn for the Castalia Trout lottery for tomorrow, then Cedar Point for the weekend with sister and her kids. Hoping to get out at least once over the weekend and will likely just head back to the same spot as last weekend to see if we can get the kids on some fish!
Tight lines all!
