I run a Lowrance HDS12 and heading to Erie this Spring. I'm from the midwest (Iowa) and was wondering which chip everyone prefers on Erie. Obviously, I have to purchase another chip since Erie is not in my region.
Thanks in advance,
FF

i run birds and use the NAVIONICS + EAST REGION on both my units. LOVE THEM ;)
I also have Navionics in my Garmin. It works great on Erie and other lakes.
Just wondering, why would you need a chip in an HDS unit? It already shows all the reefs. What else do you need to know? Or are you coming to bass fish?
When I fished a lake up in South Dakota without a chip the lake was a big blue blob. It didn't show me anything... I did have my down imaging but had to guess where all the drop off points were. I had zero contour lines!
Erie is pretty much a flat mud hole. You just want to know the location the reefs if your coming for jig season. What month and which port will you be going out of? HDS units mark the reefs in 1' increments, a chip would maybe go down to 1/2' which means almost nothing here unless your night trolling or bass fishing.
I've been out to Erie 7 out of the last 8 years (Covid we weren't allowed). We stay on South Bass island. Primarily we troll bandits the whole time. I have a pretty good recollection of where all the reefs are as well as the cans. This is just the 1st year I'll be coming out as a captain and was trying to avoid the blue blob.
I have a c map card I can not use due to being an older model it is brand new I it retails for $124.99 I would sell for $90 with shipping for you if your interested I am also have a summer place in Marblehead if you wanted to meet up in the spring you can text or call me at 440-478-6528 Kenny
I run Hds Carbons on my boat and I have the Navionics Platinum north and east. Both have Erie. I prefer them over the native Lowrance charts. Just get the one that might help you on other lakes I guess. I have the Canada and Alaska card to for Canadian trips.
