Question about Youth Fishing Rules
My nephew and his son are coming to Ohio to fish Walleye. My nephew will of course buy a license. His boy is just under 10 years old. Do I understand correctly that he can fish and can keep up to 6 walleye in addition to those that his dad and I catch?
Re: Question about Youth Fishing Rules
Yes, in Ohio...that's how it works. When he's 16, he will need a license. :)
Re: Question about Youth Fishing Rules
My answer is yes as the license age in Ohio is 16. Kids can fish alone and keep fish so why not with their family. However, I'd let a charter captain confirm on this site as they will definitely know.
Or...just call the Ohio DNR real quick and ask them to gain 100% confidence.
Happy fishing!

He/she/it/they/him/her...lol just has to be able to reel in a fish, even with the help of a parent, so that it's legal. You can't take a very young toddler out there and keep a limit for them. ;)
Re: Question about Youth Fishing Rules
Thank you for all the feedback! That’s the way it was growing up in PA as well. The youngster is an accomplished perch and crappie angler so I’m sure he’ll be ok even if his dad helps him out a bit.
