whats the best line to use for trolling using planner boards
Are you talking line for the rod using inline planer boards? Or trolling main line for big boards?
For rod line, your choice, some prefer mono for the stretch.
Some prefer braided line.
Then you have to decide what lb test of the above you prefer to use.
Pick one, use it for a season or two. then you can always change if you don't like it. But mono can be cheaper than braid.
rod line and using inline planer boards
I prefer Spider Wire Stealth in 15/4.
I use Offshore planerboards with OR-18 Snapper clips in front and OR-16 on the back.
For our in-line boards: We use Trilene XT 10 lb in the dark green color. Also we have been trying out Blood Run Tackle's Walleye Mono. It is 16# but has the same diameter as 10 lb Trilene. It seems to be bit tougher than the Trilene and where you clip your boards on the line it doesn't get nicked up as much.
All of the dive curves for pulling crank baits, in line weights with harness's are based on 10# line. It's the drag of the line in the water
We use 30# super slick by power pro. In the spring we add 15 to 18 ft of florocarbon to get some stretch and help with slow speed hook ups. The leader also slows the action of the lurer down a little bit
17# is what we use
