Good perch fishing out of toledo?

I just got a boat and am totally new to fishing lake erie. I have been taking it out from cullen park, a couple miles in between turtle island, closer to the lighthouse, fishing in the shipping channel.... because everywhere else is SHALLOW. Any reccomendations on where to catch perch out of toledo (maumee river)? I have been using perch spreaders with minnows a couple clicks off the bottom,.... but fishing has been SLOW. Any suggestions for a toledo fisherman who doesnt want to go out more then a couple mile for perch?
