Bottom Paint
Hi all! Hoping someone can give me some advise on re-painting the bottom of my boat. It was first painted in 2008. I had the marina do it the first time & I want to do it myself this year. It's a 30 footer & I keep it in the water all season. I'm not afraid of sanding, stripping, cleaning etc. if it is neccesary. With all the different types of paints available I was wondering which type would be the best for going over the existing paint. I used Wholesale Marines guide & they recommended Interlux ACT with slime fighter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank-You, Steve

I did my boat last year with Interlux Micron Extra and it seems to be holding up great. My boat is a 27 ft Sportcraft and the old paint was in bad shape flaking off and gone in a lot of places. All I did was scuff it up with 3M sanding blocks and made sure there wasnt any loose parts left. I then wiped it down with thinner and rolled the new paint on. Make sure you get a respirator and a disposable suit because sanding is messy a the paint stinks bad. Some other things I needed box of rags, roller and brushes, tape, thinner, and a well ventilated area. My paint still looks new even after being in the water all last year.
