Can you use a treble hook gaff, and do you need a helmet on a sled?
Yes on gaff. However you are better off cutting atleast one of the hooks off. They can catch the ice when trying to gaff a fish causing loss of gaff and/or fish. Helmets are not required in Ohio. Our heads are hard enough, I guess.
I agree with mrahn. I truly do not know the laws on those, nor do I even play an attorney on TV. However, I have been checked by ODNR several times on 4-wheelers and also sled and they have never said a word to me or anyone in our group about not having helmets.
As far as the gaff goes, I use a treble and they have never said anything about that either, but maybe they just have never seen it or cared to check.

Thanks fellers. I've always used a treble also, but knowing the guys I used to fish with, it may or may not have been legal.
I asked an ODNR officer at Camp Perry and he told me helmets are not required on quads or sleds.
I have been checked several times and never once have they asked or looked at my gaff for treble hook.
I wear mine mainly for warmth and wind protection, wouldn't want to ride without it to be honest.
Lol!! Well i thought it was funny..
