    Default Casting from a Headboat

    Hello,

First post on the forums here. Myself and a few friends are planning to visit the western area of Lake Erie during the last weekend of May to fish for walleye. We will be going out on a head boat from Port Clinton, OH that does cast and retrieve. From the information I have found online and on the forums here, nearly everyone is trolling with crankbaits or trolling with crawler harnesses. My question is, what will we have the best luck casting from the head boat? Can we cast the same crawler harnesses that are used for trolling? If so, what colors or color combinations should we be using?

    Thanks!

Any input? Really looking forward to a successful cast and retrieve walleye fishing trip.

Give me a call in the evenings or late afternoons on the weekend or when you are available. I can give you some good tips on drifting.

Casting from a Headboat-0629130935-jpg My basic cast rig and lead weight, just add half a crawler. Bottom bouncers with a 2 or 3 hook spinner rig and a crawler. Bottom bouncer weights of 2, 3, 4 oz just do ya. Run them 2-3 cranks off bottom and put in a holder or fixed position. With the right wind those bouncers can be killer, just keep them at same depth after you figure out what they want each day. Cast rigs are 12-20 inches long, mostly single hook, I make my cast rigs @20 in. long. Bottom bounce rigs are 3-4 feet long behind the lead weight.
