Map Card
I just replaced my Garmin GPSMAP 168 Sounder with a Lowrance
Elite-5 DSI Fishfinder/Chartplotter. I was wondering what map card you guys are using for Lake Erie? I know the unit has a base map I was wondering if I need something with more detail? Thanks

depends on how much detail you want. I perfer 5 ft contours vs the 1ft contours as it is just to much detail for me. and they are never perfect/dead on anyways. I loaned a card to a friend just to check out the difference and he decided to just use his base map. depends on your requirements/needs/wants.

Open water fishing the base map works great but for reef fishing the more detail the better, as it can save you a major repair bill. Smallmouth guys like those that get down to 1 foot or less for the details as it shows those tiny areas where alot of bass like to hang out.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm going to invest in a Navionics HotMaps Premium. I fish the reefs and around the islands. I think I can use all the detail I can get until I learn my way around better.
