    Cool Perch Fishing

It's now summer vacation for my 12 yr. old grandson (Ty-Lure) and he will be doing alot of fishing with me. He loves fishin but we all know how kids get bored trolling for hours with no fish at times. So perch will be on the menu! Any perch reports or tips for post spawn would be appreciated. This is my first post on this site and glad to see there are fisherman sharing with each other in our area. I'll keep posting reports as we get out also. Thanks in advance......

    Cool

Thanks for the info, will probably take him Friday as long as the lake co-operates. Probably go out of Sturgeon and start there, then head west if we can't find them there. Hopefully we can give you all a good report friday night!

Ty, if you just want him to catch fish take him to Dunkirk harbor by the power plant out flow .You can get white bass ,perch, maybe some small walleyes, pretty much anything. I use to take my girls there just to get something. one day they got over 100 white bass, but I must say that was 20 + yrs. ago. Kids don,t care about how big, they want quanity! #,s good luck.

Your best bait will be emerald shiners, there are places to net them. You can also buy some right at the bait shop in derby, it's not far from sturgeon point right on rt 5. Have you fished for perch on erie before? If you are fishing sturgeon get out at least a minimum 50 ft depth. If I were going out I think I would try 60 ft, first thing in the morning and use my fish finder to mark them on the bottom. If the lake was rough I may stick a little closer in the 52 ft range.

    Cool

Yeah, I have been on the lake a few times this year for perch. Did well a few times but mainly fish for those eye's. Never fished for perch this time of year though. The kid loves eating those perch so he needs to help fill the pan too! He also likes the walleye, but we'll work him into that slowly. The kid loves fishin and has some big steelhead and browns under his belt off the piers in the fall & spring. The lake still looks good for friday so we should be out there. Better throw some trolling gear in boat just in case he decides he is ready for walleye....lol.

Well we got out late friday morning and went out to 62 fow, north west out of SP, water was rough but we found some fish. Anchored up & caught some perch. Only brought home 16 fish but all we great size perch. Ty got his first erie perch and out fished granpa...He got 1 that was 15" and fat as a small football plus a couple double headers. A few others 14" & 13". The kid loved it!!!! Thanks Fishkiller for the starting point info. Was hoping to make it to the pinic and meet some of you guys today but it's the wifes birthday, so need I say anymore? Good Fishing Guys!!!!!!!!
