The waves are measured at the peak. Not peak to trough. So if you take mean level (calm waters) and start there, you measure from mean level to wave peak . I was out there also they were 2' with an occasional 2'-4' rollers we boxed 6 with 2 shortys and 3 smallies.
Roll Call - Who's going to the Southtowns Meeting tomorrow? I should be there.
me me me me me me me me me me me me
OK - That makes 13 of us.
Way to go Fishkiller ending up with 6. How long did you stay out in those waves?
till noon, we were fishing the wounded vets tournament out of sbh. we had to be back by 1230.
Where we're you fishing? Trolling the breakwall? We had many nights like that. Box a few right away then nothing. But ur hopes were so high that you just kept chugging along lol. I've often thought that the eyes move right up on the wall at night. To close to troll and difficult to cast to.
They sure did.
Good luck to everyone in the Tournament. Have a safe one also. Gonna be a little windy tonight & tomorrow.
Launched this morning at SBH, worked sticks, harnesses and spoons in front of windmills in 35-42ft for about 2 hours in 3 footers...

Had a good number of marks though.
We will be going out of sturgeon all week my boat is moored on the gas dock stop down in the evening to say hi. I should be staying on the boat all week. Cold Coors lights are always welcome...lol.
Hello everyone, I am a new to this site but appreciate all of the great info that is here! It is always nice when people are willing to share tips with beginners like me.
I started fishing more for walleye last year, and between work and having a young family I am grateful for the several times I am able to get out each spring and summer. I know this is much less than many here, but I am learning and am glad for the times I have been able to get a walleye to the boat. Hoping for more opportunities in the years ahead.
I see many here are SWA members. My son has the kid membership, and I have been meaning to get to a meeting and join myself. Good to know there are already a number of you here!
I did manage to get out today, working harnesses off bottom bouncers out in front of the windmills mostly in 30-40 fow, but like orangediablo said there wasn't much doing- just a sheephead! It was wishful thinking that the wind and waves might have been a bit less, but we also called it quits after a couple of hours.
Hey fishkiller, us amater fishermen would appreciate any reports and locations if you find any walleye. I remember that walleye are a school fish. Dis they all graduate and move out of town ?
Who ordered this weather? :rolleyes::confused::mad:
It was a great day on the pond today, it was a close balmy 62 degrees cloudy rainy 3 ft rollers with bigger mixed in at times also some caps on top of those. Must've caught 10 fish today to bad they were white perch not eyes ha ha. Should've stayed in bed capt you were the smart one today you get a gold star for your smarts. We'll give rm hell sunday.
Do you realize the weather could have worse. It could have been snowing. If that rain was snow - oh boy. Milt - it's a long story. Lost by a run. We haven't played in two weeks and it was like starting all over again. Yes Bailey, we will give them hell tomorrow. I will most likely be going out of Dunkirk in my neighbors boat.
I forgot to add one of my crew thought chumming my be a good idea also didn't work he mustve ate the wrong stuff, fish didn't like it. LOL
I should be out tomorrow with the family going for perch, launching out of sturgeon. We may make a run up north a little to 60 ft of water, haven't decided yet.
Went out this Am. got 3 14" perch & 1 12" bass while trolling for eyes. Marked very few fish. Trolled from depart. bouy to front of condos 40-60 fow saw 0 ! Also remembered why I don't do weekends, launch crowds !
I do not want to hear about perch; they are too hard to clean. I want yellow pike ! Where are the schools ?
Well we got 7to eyes 2 keepers and lost something big the fish never hit till 11 straight out front between 18 mile and meyers. In 40 to 45 fow.
Saturday...
2 trophy smallies and 1 6-7lb yellow...tough day, covered lots of water from the Fence in 55-fow to Meyers in 36-fow and Seneca in 41-fow, marked very few fish, widely scattered.
my best picture (not a great picture btw) of the day was out deep off the Fence
picked the yellow up in 41-fow just west of the red can. north troll, black/pink hatchet, 20 ft off down rigger ball, 2.1-mph down speed. another hit and miss in the same area, and we called it a day.
worked hard for very little. back at it after the front passes.
Jack
and oh, Fishkiller gets kudos - receiving the most incoming vhf hails today... ;)
good luck guys...
Jim I can't stop and have a beer with you if your not on ur moored vessel. Lol.
I'll post my awesome day later on. Still got some stuff to do at the house while it's light
I'm not in the tourney. Just took my uncle out fishin. Well we launched from sp. I decided to head west. Trolled from Evans bar to past cattaragus creek. Started at 38ft and worked through to 55fow. No eyes. One perch and one silver bass. Ended up with a broken downrigger rod and a lost harness. Decided to try by 18 mile and Meyers. My wonderful uncle tossed the cannonball over the back and snapped the cable, losing the ball, release, and snubber, costing me more money. And again no eyes. I hope everyone's day was better than mine!
Hi everyone, I am a newbie to this site. I appreciate all the info, and thanks to all who are willing to share their experience with beginners like me! Between work and having younger kids life gets pretty busy, but I am happy to be able to get out when I can (usually several times over the summer). With walleye fishing, I am at the stage where I'm always still very glad to even get one fish to the boat! Looking forward to reading through a bit more here, and I see some of you are SWA members. My son has the kid membership, and I have been meaning to try to get to a meeting and join sometime myself. Looking to learn more and improve in the years ahead.
I did get out this evening and managed to hook one smaller 'eye off the windmills in about 38 fow (guessing a 2010 year class given the size). 5 chartreuse beads and a colorado blade, the same (and only) pattern that I ended up catching all of my walleyes on last year. Saw lots of interesting marks, but no other takers... Earlier I tried 26-45 fow off Myers but nothing was doing.
nate welcome aboard u will get alot of tips here this is a great group of people on this site milt
Nate you did better than I did yesterday. Unless you lost more equipment than I did. But you did manage to boat one. Keep reading this board and you'll find where the fish are.
I heard the 63fow was the hot ticket out of dunkirk Sunday. Did anyone fish down that way?
Where exactly is 'the fence' ??
haha I had a good day too. Launched from sturgeon point and just as soon as I started to rev it up to get out to the perch beds my engine started getting loud and I smelled burned rubber! Bad impeller most likely I shut the engine down before it overheated, haven't had a chance to pull the outdrive but hopefully today. Needless to say no perch! I did troll for a little while using my kicker, ran a couple of stingers on 20 and 30 ft jets, covered 30-40 feet water but I wasn't marking any fish, no hits, and I didn't have the horsepower to get out and find em.
Even with all that, it was still nice to be on the lake again
This may be true wnyguy, but unfortunately I have not been catching enough walleye lately to worry about the health risks. My recipe :Quote:
Did you know that perch are much healthier for you to eat than walleye (out of erie) ?
Scale 'em, filet 'em, egg 'em, bread 'em - deep fry in 375 degree oil. When done, eat 'em. This is absolutely the best tasting fish there is on the planet. Now all I got to do is catch 'em.
Thanks for the warning though.
Sorry Rick I disagree I would rather eat perch.
