Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Hit the windmill area in approximately 35 to 40 feet of water from 6:30 AM till noon and I only managed five sheepshead all on harnesses and nothing took sticks. Marked very sporadic pods of fish... didn’t like what I saw on the electronics at all. Not sure if things are already transitioning deeper...

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Thanks man. Sorry you had a tough day.

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
We went out of Sun Life Marina today around 7:15 am. Trolled from South Gap to Seneca Shoals and made a turn back. Only ONE perch. Not a good day. We had worms and sticks out. Didn't see much on the sonar unit .A LOT of Fog. Maybe the worse that I've been in. A lot of bugs too.
I was a little deeper than you Grumpy Young Man but the result was the same. Better days are coming!

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
First time on Lake Erie this year. Trolled for 4 hours this morning and didn't get a single bite. What is going here?
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
4 th time on the lake this year. Trolled from the middle gap to north gap, made the turn to the south gap, behind the windmills. Pulled up went out to 40 ft of water trolled the line to the condos, turned and trolled to Seneca Shoals. NOT A HIT!
Welcome to the club Bottom Bouncer.

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Is anyone seeing any fish on there finders? I haven't seen much of anything.
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
I marked a few fish today, but not many.
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
First time out this morning, trolled for 6 hours and only managed 1 walleye, 1 bass and 1 sheephead. worked hard and threw the kitchen sink at them. Trolled in from of the windmills, out to in front of the condo's and to meyers reef. For all the supposed spawning thats been happening the last few years, where are all the walleye?
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Fished from 5-10 p.m. yesterday.
Since all I've heard from ice out is that fishing is about two weeks ahead of normal patterns I decided to start out near the elbow and work my way in from there. Two other boats I saw out that far working horizontally toward Seneca Shoal as I kept straight toward the Windmills. I saw little to nothing from 48fow-40fow. Did hook something large that spit the hook in about 39fow and another that spit it as well eventually in front of the windmills. All n all, my screen was dead as a doornail in the water I covered ranging from 30-48....
I'd be interested at this point to find out if some of the shore spots on the river aren't producing as well.

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
At least 2 walleye today. One weigher !/2 way from the elbow south Seneca Shoals. Seen more on the screen than the last few days but not great. 2 color and 5 color worked with worm harnesses.

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
trolled west out of the Catt from 4am to 10am sunday. Started in 30 fow but marked most fish in 45. I tried everything I knew to do but only caught two perch. Frustrating but was a beautiful morning.

Hey HR, it seemed as if there were better reports coming from that area for both walleye and perch lately. Were you marking perch schools in that depth? I know they’re still supposedly thick in that 55ft zone. I wonder if the eyes could be hanging out deeper out there considering how good the perch reports are still. Thanks
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
I know I marked one area that was a school of perch. I picked one up out of that school on a harness as I passed through it. Others were typical walleye marks. There were some boats out in the 50 foot range but none seemed to stick around. I didn't see anyone net a fish there. Will try them again this week. Good luck.

Re: how is fishing in buffalo

Unless I’m mistaken…it’s where the international line makes a 45 degree(ish) angle. If you were to make a straight shot out of the south entrance to the line, it’s not far off to the southwest of there.

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
3 yesterday, 0 today
 Out the south gap to Seneca Shoals.

Re: how is fishing in buffalo

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Hey all, Any reports out of the Catt or Dunkirk lately? Some day my schedule and the Lake weather will align so I can get out! Hopefully some day damn soon! Thanks in advance.
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Hey y'all haven't been here in a while , I hope you are smashing them . Lots of great info been shared here . Good luck I'll be back
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Fished west of Dunkirk in 55 - 68 fow this morning. Hooked 7, lost 2, 1 short and 4 keepers. Some garbage fish mixed in too. I've had worse mornings recently but not the numbers I was hoping for. Hopefully the bite in Buffalo is getting better.
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
The bite in Buffalo is NOT getting better for me. Trolled inside the wall from outside Sun Life Marina to the North gap and back to a little past the center gap. Saw A LOT of fish on the sonar but only one sheephead. Then went out to the to the elbow trolled around there to the condos another one sheephead.

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Was humbled and frustrated this past weekend. West out of the Catt in 50-55 fow. Threw the kitchen sink at them and couldn't buy a bite. An honest to goodness skunking! Seems like folks that were a little deeper did better. Nowhere to go but up from here!! Good luck fellas!

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Had a few phenomenal days out there leading up to the 4th. The 4th was a very early 2 hr window then nada for me and others I talked to.
So, out fishing in Erie, PA area for the next few days. See these stick baits from the local company “Buckets”. Anyone recommend these for local waters and if so any suggestible colors? That and any unique bait and tackle shops worth hitting while here as well? Appreciate any info. Tight lines!!!

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Got out for a couple hours this afternoon and fished in 58-63 fow. Marked a lot of fish but only caught one sheephead. Going to head back to Dunkirk tomorrow.
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Not much better today. Got 2 in 70 fow west of Dunkirk. I do need some help though. I started fishing with boards this year (Church Walleye Boards) and have been running them with bottom bouncers and getting bites. The problem is I am having a tough time hooking fish or even telling if one is there. Short of scrapping them for offshore boards with tattle flags does anyone have any tricks that can help me improve my hook up percentage?

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Got out Friday. Sorry for the late report. Picked up 4. 3 nice size one small 17" along the line. That's better than what I've been doing.
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Fished saturday for 6 hrs off Center Rd. 60 to 70 fow. Two perch, two sheep and one very full walleye. Must have coughed up a dozen emeralds in my cooler. No other takers. Frustrating. Not as frustrating as the arrogant jerk in the white BMW who pinned me in at the corner near Hidden Harbor. This is the third time a resident there has gotten in my face at Sunset in the past years. I can't help that their damn roads are narrow and my boat a little wide. I'm 6'2 275 and these jerks have no qualms about getting in my face... dangerous place to be. People there just seem bent out of shape that they have to share the road with trucks and boat trailers. Somebody is going to take a beating over there eventually. Anyone else have troubles with people over there? Maybe its me?

Did the evening bite Saturday. Still marking a ton out there on the line… Only took two sheep’s and a perch. Pulling both sticks n harnesses at 2mph-ish…

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Your not the only me too. It's digusting and then I get a ticket for burned out tail light cause the troopers sit by the railroad tracks. Back to sturgeon point next year

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
New to forum, went out yesterday from Dunkirk, headed west towards Van Buren Point. Caught 4 -3 keepers in 68-72 fow.
They were hitting red worm harnesses. That was before rain came, tried in the rain - nothing!
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
At least it ain't snow.
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
thx joe now its gonna snow next week lol
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
The fishing really sucks. Or I suck at fishing. Maybe both are true. I finally got out for a couple hours Sunday evening out of Dunkirk. 3 hours without a single bite. It has to get better, right?
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Bottom Bouncer it's not you, there is a lot of that going on. I trolled the inner harbor yesterday. There were about 25 other boats doing the same. The screen was loaded, nice marks, but nothing was hitting. I didn't see a net to come out on any other boat either. I did have a few hits. But got nothing.
-
Re: how is fishing in buffalo
Bottom Bouncer. It may be us?? Picked up 4 today along the line. Not bad, better than we've doing BUT not as good as some. You know who you are - congrats to you. :)

Re: how is fishing in buffalo
This year four is pretty good Joe. I was planning on heading to Barcelona in the morning, but may rethink that if they are biting here. Glad you caught some, hopefully it gets better from here.
