Haven't fished the Catt this year, where are the fish? Head west or east? How many FOW are they in?
Thanks
Straight out start in 65 foot and go from there meat was better
Thank you, hopefully I can boat more than 1 fish this year.
Well, I boated more than 1...2! Givin the 4'-5' waves in the morning, I'm pretty happy that we got anything. Where does the noaa marine forcast come from a magic 8 ball? It said 1'-2'... the lot attendet said we were the only ones to come in with fish at that time. This was the state launch on the catt.
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=45142 this is the site I use for wave height. double the number as it is up and down on the buoy but only shows one way. Plus if there are sustained winds it will take a day or two for it to calm down. I should have listened to it Saturday, but tried to go out and turned around at the break wall due to four foot waves.
dukhnter8 is right, double the wave height the buoy says. If the lake hasn't started laying down during a blow by the evening before, don't count on it by morning. Also I found the open lakes is what you should be looking at, not the near shore.
My2cents😀
Gotcha, I was going off their near shore, still I could have double it and that would have been concervative. Nevertheless we r safe and I got some filets. Thanks for the help.
fished out sp 70-76fow got one fished 11-330 what a beautiful day

We went out of Dunkirk yesterday. There was a stiff breeze out of the south, a little rough ,hard to steer and got bounced around. But when setting up we got three quick fish on 8 color and worm harness. It took a long time to get all the lines in the water. That was a pleasant surprise. We ended up with 10 walleye, one was a throwback. It was around the 15 " mark. The other sizes varied.
Fished out of the Catt with fishkiller on his new ride Tiara31 yesterday. Very Sweet Ride! Thanks so much Jim.
We boxed 10 in a few hours west of the Catt in 90'. Most of the fish were 50-60' range, so 8-10color and dipsy's off corners 170' out.
5 in dunkirk yesterday 88-94fow dipsys 204-225outside and 180 inside all harneses. firetiger, orange/copper and black/purple worked
We had a great time and a big thanks to Jim for the invite. I have picked up a lot from Jim over the years. Going fishing with or just listening to charter guys who put that many hours in out there will help your fishing. Trust me though, fishkiller is opened minded enough to have me set (and sure I'm not the only one) a few baits my way to see what I'm doing. For the most part our program is very similar.
I will say this...we seem catch a few more when Capt Kim is on board...lol
Good to hear from you lineman, it's been awhile😎
Went west out of SP today. Managed to pick up 8. With one throwback. Dipsys, leadcore, worm harnesses and plugs managed to work.
Thanks for the report Bailey. What depths were most productive?
Was out of Dunkirk today, lake was pretty rough. Got one 18" eater, 75 ft on orange jointed rapala. Gave up as was to rough for me.
fished st pt yesterday 63 to 68 ft riggers bottom bouncer and dipsy divers # 3 setting 180 back Attachment 4324
Fished out of Dunkirk today. A little east of Purina from 65 ft to 90 ft. We got 5 walleye, not very big, one throwback, 3 sheep head, 2 perch, 1 channel cat, 1 white perch. It was choppy. Had several releases and the worm was hit. But many misses. ?????
Went west out of SP yesterday. Got 8 Walleye, several monster sheep head, a few white perch, several silver bass - a few were really large ( did anyone ever try them ? ) There were a bunch of boats out there. My partner calls them white perch but I think that they might be big shad or something like that. ???? In the spring I see many dead along the shore line. ??? I think Fishkiller and myself had conversation about this before??? Maybe he knows? Or how about Bailey? We haven't heard from him in a while.
The white bass taste like a bass. the white perch are suppose to taste pretty close to the yellow perch. the hard part is telling the diff. between the two for me. Bailey is working all the time but full of info!
Here's a good link with side by side pictures. I've never tried the teeth on tongue way, that sounds like the best. Usually when I catch them, when you get a bass, you know. It's the perch that you catch when you scratch your head. I remember eating the white perch, but seem to remember something about them being a little tougher to clean, or less meat, something like that compared to yellow perch.

By the way, was out on erie yesterday catching smallmouth with live crayfish outside of buffalo harbor hitting a shoal area. Caught some and lost some a good day. We also saw the rubber duck, took a run out of the north gap and could see it from the lake. Thought about going up the canal/river, but there were so many boats, canoes and kayaks going up it to check out the duck that I thought we might get stuck in there for an hour just trying to not collide with another boater, no thanks! Small boat harbor parking was packed, we were in overflow fenced in lot but they had tons of help shuttling people back and forth, did a nice job considering how many boats were out.
Fished West of SP Saturday morning, 4 walleye, and 1 perch. Lost another lead core line because of a foul hooked sheapshead, spinning retrieve knotted it up. Two on Renosky Crystalinas and two on copper harnesses, 70' East wind was a hassel.

I may be working but I keep in the loop of what's up on the lake. This late summer bite has sounded pretty great if you figure the bite out . There are a few easy differences between silver bass and white perch .the silver bass will get larger for one but if small still tricky but easy to tell the difference. The silver bass looks kinda more like a striper in in the markings where white perch is more silver. The easiest noticeable difference is in the dorsal fins silver bass have a separation between spiney high frontal and lower rear where the white perch is a solid dorsal. You can also look in the mouth silvers have a rough patch on the tounge and whites are smooth tongued . They confused me for yrs so I looked it up to figure it out myself yrs back. Neat fact about white perch is in Maine they love em for the table and toss the yellows on the ice or shore for eagle food as they say. Stay safe enjoy the late season bite while it's hot. I should be out over holiday weekend and hopefully a trip or two after . The kings should stack soon and I'll share how I do on those . I hope to get a couple after work trips in on those. I just noticed Thursday and Friday marine forecast for the big lake O is calling for up to 4 footers and north winds , it could mske for an interesting weekend inshore fishing . Gotta wait snd see and watch the water temps . If they drop kings will show.
I kept two silver bass this past spring, water temp mid 50° mark. I was pleasantly surprised eating them. I filleted them and a must would be to remove all the red meat. I pan fried and they were as mild as a crappie.
Fished out of SP today, ended up in front of the Catt. 68-70 fow got 4 eyes 16-22" & 4 nice size perch, got all while trolling 1.8-2 mph. All harnesses pink & green, blk & purple, nucular green.
Fished out of SP today. Ended up with 8 walleye. It was fast and furious in the am. We got two before we could get all lines set. That was nice.
Went NNW out of the Catt, Saturday and yesterday. Got 12 on Sat., and 7 yesterday. 69-71 fow , a few on 8 color LC + a deep 800 RR, the rest off dipsies- 0 setting 140-150 back, 3 setting 170-180 back...with harnesses, mostly anything with green on it, purple also caught a few.
CARP, has anyone heard or seen of a 76# carp being caught? A guy told me yesterday that his father caught a 76# carp on 10# test line. I believe he said on Grand Island somewhere. He said it measured 42" high when on it's belly. That's a big ass carp and would have been something to see! I would think it would be some kind of record?
Like Greenhead mentioned on the other blog. "good to see lineman's back on the water" I totally agree. :o
Anyone doing any good of SBH? Taking buddy n kids out hoping to just move some rods
We did well on smallies and sheepshead sw of roundhouse in 23fow on Friday using crayfish. No gobies.
Anyone getting any perch yet ? I may try Monday labor day.
Caught a walleye today out of stugeon point with a jaw tag. Tag has NYSDEC on it. Tried to look up who to send the information to but couldn't find much about them. Anybody else ever report one?
