    Default Fairport Harbor

Went out of Fairport Harbor for the first time Saturday. Didn't know where to go so we went everywhere. East to Geneva and back. Very few fish on the finder. Trolled out to around 60+ fow. Caught 2 on deep divers - one 7+ lbs and one 4 lbs. Did catch a nice small mouth, white bass, and a couple of sheephead close in. Something large took a big lure and snapped the line because the drag was too tight. Otherwise, was a long day. Anyone else have any luck? Should we go West??

    Default Ashtabula Eyes

Went out of Lake Shore Park on the 6th, the 7th and the 15th. We caught our limit of eyes all three days. We worked for them but they are out there. We went straight North from the light house until we were 6.5 miles out. Trolled straight North until we out 12 miles, then turned around and trolled back South until we had our limits. Took from 4 to 6 hours each day. Rigged up trolling dipsy divers with worm harnesses and stinger spoons. Right side of boat I run two of the large dipsys, one set at 3.5 and other set at 1.5. The 3.5 gets let out on wire line to 125 to 135 feet. The 1.5 gets let out to 145 to 160 feet. Let much more than that out and you bring up zebra shells so I know we are fishing deep. On left side using braided line, large dipsy set at 1.5 and small one set at 3.5. The 1.5 gets let out same as right side of boat. The 3.5 small dipsy gets let out to 200 to 225 feet. If there are three of us on the boat, we let out a wire line with a large blue and silver Hot-N-Tot 325 feet straight back flat line style. It always catches the largest fish of the day, it may only catch one or two but it is always the largest fish. I am on vacation this week so plan on trying to get out a few more times weather permitting. One thing I have noticed this year, the fish are not schooled up like years past, they are scattered and you will run through pockets of them, catch a couple here and a couple there. Have fun and remember, a bad day of fishing is better than a good day working!

by the way, we headed out at dawn all three days and were back in by 2pm

    Default More Ashtabula Eyes

August 24th and 25th...the walleye are still out there! Limits both days using same setup as my last post. Between the 02 line and 03 lines seemed to be best though. About two hours fishing both days, 7:30 am put in time and out by noon on Monday. Tuesday, put in at 4:30 pm and out by 8 pm. Hot lures...black and white harness, brown colored spoon, watermellon colored spoon and harness, blue and silver harness...didn't matter much what we had out, it caught fish! Go get 'em!

    Default Still Ashtabula Eyes...

Went out of Ashtabula Friday morning, September 4th. Had heard eyes moved out a little further so started fishing straight North of the light house at 9 miles out. Fish finder was just lit up so we started fishing. Man did we catch junk fish. We did pick up 12 walleye and 6 perch using same setup as previous posts from me. Lake was calm and sunny. Started fishing at 7am and shut down at 3pm and headed in. We ended up catching the most walleye between the 05 and 09 line trolling in a North direction with some zig zagging. There were a lot of boats out and listening to radio chatter some guys were doing OK and some were struggeling. We had a blast and caught some nice fish but we did not limit out. Wonder how much the full moon really affects the fishing???
