Default Fish still full of eggs?

Went out of Lorain this morning, a bit rough, but managed to get 16 of 18 before it got too rough, when I was filleting them, had a 19 inch fish full of eggs. I thought it had a bunch of fish in it, it was really fat and hard. Is this unusual?

I caught one of those fish with eggs a few weeks ago. I also thought it was fat and happy. Eggs were a solid pack.

I have heard some fish don't deposit their eggs. When this happens they absorb the eggs. Or so I read somewhere.
