    Default Lorain Walleye 8/6-8/7

Fished north of the dump starting about 5:00 pm on Saturday. Had tons of marks from 24-35 feet in 42-46 FOW. Fished 2 flat lines out at 180 ft with Perfect 10's. Had Tadpole 3's out with Gold Willow Harnesses on planers. Also had 1 harness with 3 ounce snap weight at 50/50. Ran a #1 Dipsey on for a while, but pulled that due to smaller fish getting dragged.

Pretty non stop fishing from 5:00 until about 9:15. If we didn't have a fish on the snap weight line in 5 minutes, we were rebaiting. We caught a few 2lb+ white bass and 35 shorty walleye ranging from 7 inches to 13. We caught 5 keepers (17-20 inch) and lost 4 keepers when they hit the surface. We might have been trolling a little fast when those big mouths came out of the water.

We trolled anywhere from 2mph to 3.5 mph. Changed speed regularly. Would speed up .5 mph or slow down that much. 75% of hits came immediately after a speed change. All of the keepers were kept on plastic. Any harness caught fish were throwbacks or white bass.

We trolled from the dump to Beaver creek after dark, until about 1:00 am with only a couple of temporary hook ups. Fish didn't stay on. Marks disappeared in shallower water (unlike last weekend).

Sunday morning we headed out about 6:30 am. Testing my theory from the night before about plastic and the fish still feeding in the top column, I first set out the Perfect 10's at 180 and 220 ft. Before I could get the second one to 220 ft, line started peeling off the first reel at a rapid speed. By the time I put Pole 2 in the cannon and grabbed Pole 1, line counter already read 345 ft. Caught a 28 inch 7.6 ounce walleye. I then put out the Tadpole 3's 110 ft out (on planers) with 3 inch perch colored Rapalas. Caught two (16 and 18 inchers)on the Rapalas, and another 17 incher on the Flat lined Perfect 10 before the wind started howling. Fished for another hour in 2-4 footers before the girlfriend started turning green. Headed in for the weekend.

Bigger fish are feeding in the top column. We have caught 4 hogs (7-10 lbs) in the past 3 weeks flatlining those Perfect 10's or Smithwick Rogues. Too many shorties hitting on trolled harnesses. We are only using those in the near future if the wind, waves and fish finder indicate good drift fishing.

Well done on trying so many different programs and finding what worked to get the bigger fish.
Thanks for the detailed report, very helpful for those like us who fish out of Vermilion and normally find the North end of the Lorain Dumping Grounds is worth the 10/12 mile ride.

This last weekend we only fished Fri and Sat evenings, and did long trolls from Vermilion to West of the Castle area, too many 14"/16" fish and found that worm harness's attracted to many of those.
