Default Sat 7/30 - Out of Vermilion

We ran over to the top of the Lorain Dumping area, first time this year.
Good marks, but could not get them to bite except one below
29" 8.7lbs well worth the 12 mile ride and gave us a real fight diving deep near the boat, thought it was a sheephead!
3oz inlines, 70 back, Pink/Purple Willows with Pink back at 1.8/2.0 mph.

    Nice Fish Roy!

Night bite was great on Friday night.

We started going west right outside of the Lorain Light House at about 8:00 pm. We set out a variety of harnesses and Hards using different presentations and depths. We hit most on a Pink and white Perfect 10 running 180 back. Picked up a couple of huge sheephead to start, then a 10.2 lb lunker. What fun it was watching a 7 year old, 8 year old and 12 year old fight that beast for over 200 feet at 1.7 mph.

There were marks everywhere!! Fished mostly in 24-28 fow less than a mile from shore. Varied speed from 1.4 - 3.2 mph. We hooked fish after fish. We ran Tadpoles with pink and white willow blade harnesses 45 ft out on planers. Caught a few throw backs on those. We ran #1 dipseys with chartreuse harnesses 38 ft out (#3 setting) and caught 3 keepers and a couple of throwbacks. We ran the pink and white Perfect 10 180 back and caught 8 fish on that (3 keepers 2 sheepheads and 3 throw backs). Ran perch colored bandit with a 3 ounce snap weight (40/40) and caught nothing but shorties on that.

We had a hand full of 3-4 inch shad hit the deck of the boat after pulling the fish out of the net. Their guts were full as could be with shad. Might explain why the day bite has been a little slow. Those hogs are out there feeding in the top 8-12 feet of water at sunset through the middle of the night.

We varied speed for the three hours we were fishing to see if speed had any effect on the size of the fish we were catching. Didn't seem to make a difference. They were on a feeding frenzy and weren't afraid to catch their dinner.

The kids loved the fishing. We loved having them enjoy their first night walleye fishing on a boat. Too bad they had bed times. We could have stayed out there all night. Three hours of fishing we ended up with 7 keepers. We had a few junk fish and quite a few throw backs. We dragged some shorties for a while, while tending to other poles. We caught the 10 pounder. The kids all of pictures of them holding a fish they could barely hold up long enough for a picture.

We went out early Saturday to the western basin and loaded the cooler with perch (they fed far more than they caught, but still ended up with over 60 perch in the cooler while dodging storm cells in 2.5 hours).

Great weekend of fishing for the little ones. A bit stressful for the big ones. I am sure those kids will have a memory of the weekend for many years to come.
