Proof of insurance. Check with your local DMV. Some states require this, some states may not. You should have the minimum insurance required for your state, usually liability insurance. Be prepared to present proof of insurance to the DMV clerk. Take driving training course. The teens need to log 50 hours with an experienced driver. But if you can take a formal drivers training course you have a better chance to lower your car insurance premiums. Insurance companies will be more likely to discount your premium on your car insurance, if you can show them that you are very serious about driving on the road and less likely to get into a car accident. Some may offer up to a 10% discount if you take a formal drivers training class licensed in your state. Use the gears intelligently. In town traffic you often have to change gear frequently. On a winding rural road it's the same. But don't just go on auto-pilot. Anticipate the next gear change. Which gear will you use for the next bend? As you slow down, don't just go down a gear, but think which one to use next. If you have extra safety features on your car you are on the good way for saving money on your premium. A car alarm or an immobilizer is a good help to help you save money. If your car record is clean after years of driving on the road, and you have no-claims, your premium will lower its price as many years you have made your record clean. advanced driving lessons and safety lessons in driving also help to lower your premium. If your primary reason to sign up for a defensive driving class is to get a discount on your insurance you may first want to check with your company because some do not offer a discount. Some companies will provide you with a list of a specific defensive driving school or course that they recommend in order to qualify for a discount. The benefit of taking a defensive driving course isn't just lowering your insurance rate; you may learn new skills that will keep you safer on the road. Follow the two-second rule: Considered to be the rule of thumb when driving, the two-second rule requires the driver to stay at least two seconds behind the vehicle in front of them. The aim is to have enough time to hit the brakes if at all a collision is to occur. Hydroplaning - Aquaplaning occurs where your tyre tread fills with standing water that it cannot get rid of due to the road speed. Generally this occurs at 80kph and above. Keep your tyres at the optimum. Check for Wear 'n' Air before your journey: watch for stretches of standing water and slow down. If you begin to aquaplane ease off the accelerator, keep your steering straight and WAIT for the tyres to regain normal grip. Your brakes and steering don't work when the car is aquaplaning as the car is 'floating' on a film of water. Only when the tyres get rid of the water does grip return.

Wife caught a 8" walleye. We enjoyed the day on the lake but it was a long drive to come home with nothing. I am not sure if we will get another chance to go out this year but I will be looking forward to some jig fishing next spring

Due to the strong wind Friday, I had a friend suggested trying for perch back in East Harbor. There were what I think are called Terns, ( white gulls with black heads) all over the harbor grabbing shiners. We positioned ourselves over the minnow and the perch started right away. Granted there were all sizes, but no matter what size they were fighting hard. I probably threw back about 40, but managed to keep 25 nice perch. Saturday was the same thing, except the action was a bit slower.
Great place to go on a windy day. I talked to several people and they said its a year around thing back in East Harbor for perch.

Several years ago, I was fishing on one of Tibbels headboats along with at least 15 other anglers. All were live baiting with emerald shiners, except me. Once the boat anchored, I began jig-casting a 1/10 oz Sonic Baitfish tipped with a tiny piece of worm. After about 15 minutes, half the boat stopped fishing to see what I was using. About 9 out of 10 casts produced a yellow perch or a walleye. Seeing was believing that day and most other days when I venture onto a perch boat. The technique is simple...cast , let the lure hit bottom then gently bottom-bounce the metal jig back to the boat. This is exactly how I fish on a walleye boat. Specifically for walleyes, I will also cast with an Erie Shiner weight-forward spinner. Incidentally, the more modern record walleye caught was by 11 yr old Will Tibbels. It was a 14 lb walleye caught thru the ice on a silver Sonic BaitFish.

Question: Those with live wells, are you using them, or just tossing the perch in an iced cooler?

Trolling and what options
I want to thank anyone with advice in advance, and please I know these questions have been asked alot but here goes another round. I have gotten back into boating after about 35 years, my uncle ran charters 30 +years for a few guys that are still out there, until he went on his own(slow retrieve charters). Back in the 80s it was about drift fishing and later trolling, but long lining it. There weren't the options of inline planers ,dipsy divers, big boards..etc. I want to get into trolling and putting some meat in the box...lol. one question I have is do you run shallow or deep behind dipsysor can I run the deep divers?? What's the better way to run deep bandits? Inline boards? I'm just getting back into things and hate to say I don't want to break the bank...but want to show the grandkids a good time.

Hello Fellow Fishermen!

I’m making a post because I need your help with something. I’ve been working on an idea for fishing lures like crank baits to solve the problem of getting snagged and needed some feedback. I have 4 questions and if you could put a response it would greatly help. You can just answer in the comment section.

1. If you knew there was a lure that would allow you to retrieve the the body of it back but leave the hooks on the snagged boulder or log, would you be interested in buying that product?

2. Let’s say a normal lure goes for $8 today, how much more would you be willing to pay for a lure that has a mechanism to get it back?

3. How much do you think you spend on lures in a year?

4. What brand of lures do you fish with?

If you answered no, could you also explain why?

All responses are appreciated and this helps a lot! Thank you!

I'm not sure what your fishing for but if it's walleye your probably not gonna find them in the harbor. I don't ice fish but I'm thinking you need to be out of the harbor somewhere. Would like to here somebody with some experience chime in on this one.

I agree with this post. You will catch bluegill and largemouth bass in the harbor thru the ice. I have fished Lake Erie for over 50 years , recreationally and professionally, and have not been fortunate enough to find a harbor walleye. Once ice breaks up, the walleyes will migrate to the western basin shoals to spawn and panfish will migrate to marinas where water temps warm more quickly. Find a marina that you can fish for fantastic crappie fishing. Bluegills and largemouth bass will be there also. Gently, vertical jig along any dark structure that absorbs sun light. The very best jig out there is a 1/10 oz Sonic BaitFish. Glow white and glow chartreuse are my personal favorites. These baits have a vibration that is not in other highly promoted metal jigs! They are also just as good for walleyes off the western basin rockpiles. That 1/10 oz is deadly on the cast then gently bouncing it along the structure back to the boat.
Remember, there is not much color in early spring bait fish. As a result, a glow white Sonic BaitFish should be your best finish. Be well...Pete
