Default How long does it last - West side?

Newby looking for a first trip to Western side early in May. Does the jogging bite last, or even a shallower trolling bite go on for a while, or do the mass of walleye keep going east? I wanted to come earlier, but the few days I had turned ugly by mother nature.

Also… Fishing west side, basically from the Wild Wings direction, is it pretty common to be ok with modest winds from the south, and or west? Less so from the north? Assuming east winds can be the worst?

17' seaworthy boat… but not looking to be uncomfortable on new water.

    THANKS!

The trolling bite should last a couple of months maybe longer. The majority of the big fish will have headed east but there should be plenty of 18 to 26 inch fish around until late June.

Ditto to Wakina's post and just watch the weather reports for sure, and you should do well.

Thanks guys… The jigging bite was my first interest, but timing may not work.

Just how early in May are you talking? The jig bite could still be on, just not as fast and furious as it was at the peak of the spawn. It would be best to watch the reports here for information and to invest in a few phone calls to the local bait stores to find out what is working and where. Ask some questions on this site as well, you will get some answers.

    Thank you!

Window would be to grab a couple days in the first ten day of the month (May)… weekdays, based of weather and such. Probably coming solo from WI… just want to try it after having a fun two days on the ice, and seeing how nice everyone was in the area.

I'll keep an eye on this, and make calls as it becomes more of a reality, now that I understand there are still plenty of fish on the west side for a while.
