    Default Low H2O

Checking out lake tonight with Fishon205 looking to get out this weekend ran over to turtle point only to find mud. Here is the proof... or the bright side water was coming back in but so.was the ice.

    Default stong wind

Strong winds from the west all day.
I was up Sunday and the water level looked similar to what it was in Oct.
Ice sheets and packed up ice was everywhere.
Its been hard to get a good picture of the lake with all the clouds for a satellite pic.
Northern Mich areas have at least 2 feet of snow and alot of ice.
Give it time, we have alot of ice on Erie and its still Feb. No boating yet.
Yes it is low, just hope for some good runoff during the spring.

For reference only but it will give you some idea as to how much snow is currently available for spring run off. Here is the Ski Reports for Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota, one has to remember that alot of the snow at these resorts is man made. It gives current base conditions and depths it is probably packed at those depths making for alot more water run off when it melts.

The following link shows that on Feb.15, 2013 the lake level was 20 inches less than on Feb.15, 2012 that is 1.66 ft less than one year ago. I agree the wind plays a huge factor as to water levels in the western Basin but with 20 inches less water the wind has to move considerably less water to make the harbors and marinas unsafe to navigate. Meaning that a wind of just 10-12 mph (1 to 2 ft waves)could render access to and from the lake tricky at best and impossible at worst.

I was up 10 days ago. It was calm day and Turtle Creek at Rt 2 was nothing but mud flats that day. Report in the link above forecasts 2 inch rise from Feb 15 to Mar 15. Need whole lot more than that. Hope it rains someplace in the great lakes basin.
