Default Missed fishing Erie last weekend :-) But will be fishing Sat 7/24 - Out of Vermilion

Missed fishing Erie last weekend due to upland bird hunting in Montana
No shooting or harvested birds shown in the video, but it shows the wonderful Big Sky country we were privileged to stay in for 3 days.

Will be out this coming Sat Sep 24th, but out of touch with where and what is working for Walleye?
    So any suggestions will help!

We went out Friday afternoon 9/23, leaving our Vermilion dock at about 2pm.
Drove over to just SE of the Sandbar, and trolled North to around 33/18 where we found a pocket of fish.
Pulled a 23" fish quickly on a Double Willow harness [purple and pink], 3oz weight 80 back in 37 FOW @ 1.7/1.8 mph.
Then the black biting flies arrived and eventually drove us back into Vermilion.
The worst attack of biting flies this year

Was too windy and the waves were up to 3ft today [9/24] so did some boat jobs!

    Hey Roy,

I hunt a lot, and use a thermocell to keep the skeeters away when it is still warm out. I actually had it on my boat a few weeks ago while we were docked out by the islands overnight. The mosquitos were unbearable, so we brought the thermocell. The next afternoon, the black flies had the ankles of my socks red from those biting buggers. My girlfriend asked if the thermocell would work. I kind of laughed at her, and thought. .. it can't make it any worse. Within 2 minutes, no more flies. We set it down on the floor by our feet and they almost immediately went away.

These things are between $20-$50 depending on what size you get. Refills are pretty inexpensive. The value of not kicking your own ankles or ruining your favorite hat by swatting at those biting bastards makes the $20 well worth the investment.

Guess I will quit laughing at the girlfriend when she suggests something unorthodox next time.

I feel so stupid writing this!!
We have a Thermocell on board and have spare mats and gas and never thought to get it out!

I find it amazing where the flies come from, I drove at 25 mph out 6 miles and within a few minutes the black flies had found us.
They certainly did not follow us out or back in.
When we sailed never saw any until we used the auxiliary diesel motor and then they would sometimes appear.
The attractant must be engine exhaust fumes.

The Thermocell will be ready next time!!

LOL. You can't feel stupid Roy. I laughed when it was suggested to me. I almost dismissed it, since black flies aren't mosquitos. I am sure my girlfriend is still enjoying the fact that she was right!
