    Default perch report Sat 08/16

Went back out to the area North of the firing range can line. About 1/2 way between B&C can and about 1 mile north of the line. We took a 60 perch limit that went 18lbs at the cleaners. 1/2 or 1/3 minnow in the mud. Very light bite. We had 2 over 12 inches and a few 10s but the majority went 8 inches. Lots of junk today.

Had a strange occurrence while bringing in a white perch. Just got it to the top of the water and started to lift it into the boat and a large fish took a swipe at it. The fish looked to be at least 3 foot long and kind of silvery. It broke the water and throwed a large spay of water and was gone. It startled me so bad that I had to set down. I think it was probably a musky but can not say for sure.

LOL! That would be startling for sure! Had that happen quite a few times up north in Canada with pike last week.

I think you're right in thinking it was probably a muskie.

We are staying on land today after being bounced around for the last 2 days. My body says mowing the lawn is even better than 3 days of unintentional aerobics. It was bouncy out there yesterday, even our dog was suffering from sea legs last night, walking around at an angle back and forth.

There was a large pack of boats further out towards the Canadian line. It was far enough that I could not tell if the were anchored or fishing for walleyes. We could only see their windshields glaring in the sun.

There were what appeared to be quite a few walleye marks in the area that we perched fished yesterday, enough so that if we had been looking for eyes I would have setup and gave it a try.

I had that happen on Bright Lake in Ontario when I was in my 20's, I had been forwarned about that sort of thing back then and it still startles you some. It wasn't something that you would be expecting in the Western Basin of Lake Erie. The spray from that fish blew into the boat and the wife wanted to know what was going on. She said that I had that look on my face that happens when you have a close call and she thought something was seriously wrong. We had a good laugh out of the experience once I told her what happened. That white perch became lunch for one of the gulls waiting impatiently near the stern.
