    Default Possession Limits

Can someone please tell me the possession limits for perch and walleye. I know the daily limits but can not find the possession limits in the Ohio DNR Fish Regulations book. Thanks You.

From what I have gathered to be safe, no more than your days limits for the days you can prove you were fishing. And these fish must me in your abode, hotel, house, camper at a campground, etc. Not in a cooler in your truck.

There is no possession limit beyond the daily creel limit. That means you can have as many as you want in your freezer at home but you may not catch and take into possession more than one days limit on any given day that you fish. You can catch and keep one days limit every day that you fish but you cannot catch 3 walleyes on Monday and 5 walleyes on Tuesday as you would be in violation for the Tuesdays creel limit.

If you are staying at the lake for a few days it would be wise to have your fish cleaned and clearly marked by a commercial fish cleaner with the date cleaned so you will have record of when they were cleaned which in turn shows when they were most likely caught. Also keep campground, motel or any other lodging receipts that would show how long you have been staying at the lake.

If you would be ticketed/sited for over bagging on any given day that would put your whole previous days catch in doubt. The ODNR would then question when you caught the other fish in your possession and may very well confiscate all of your fish based solely on the one days catch over the daily creel limit for which you were cited.

Your best bet is to not keep the previous days catch with you on the boat while fishing. ODNR has no such possession limit and no clear law on how to differentiate yesterday's catch from today's catch. Best bet is to leave the previous day's catch at the camp site and only have your current day's catch in your possession.

If you have more than a one days creel limit in your boat, on the ice while ice fishing, on the cleaning table for the number of fishermen on board or present and you are checked then you will be cited/ticketed!! No questions asked, the number of fish determines if you are over the daily creel limit. It does not matter when you caught them and the ODNR Officer will not believe you any how. The only way you can have more than one days Creel limit while on the water is if you are transporting them on a Commericial Ferry.

sounds like good advice from everyone whos posted. we have been fishing erie for 2 weeks each year. we clean our days catch and leave them at our camp site. so we never have more than one days catch in our truck or boat. and we have our camping receipt to show how many days we have been there fishing. you can have one days catch for each day you fish in your possession as long as there stored at your camp site, motel, or where ever your staying. but you can only have one days catch in your possession while on the water or in your truck.
